GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) 2026 AMG GT 4-Door Vision EV

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) is the first generation five-door variant of the AMG GT two-door sports car. Production: September 2018– Model years: 2019–
This car will have Mercedes highest starting price. The pinnacle halo car of the brand.

Does the design reflect that?

Mercedes used to stand for this:

When the rear hatch is open, then the tail resemblance influence from the C111 can be seen. Would have been great if they used more of the same kind of striped louvers as the C111 instead of the black shiny plastic.

I think the yellow and white launch colours don't bring out the best of this design and it will probably look great in some dark green, brown, kalahari gold and red colours.

Probably will be a drift king monster

Electric powertrain is impressive and at the moment is the benchmark for German cars. 700km range for a car that blasts to 200kmh in less than 7sec and tops at 300kmh is hugely impressive.

The weight of 2460kg is heavy but then if you compare it to a similar sized car such as the BMW M5 (5.09m) which is even heavier at 2515kg and also the S-class SWB S580 4matic (5.19m) weighs 2250kg (-210kg) but the GT63 is 165kg heavier than the Taycan Turbo S (2290kg) but then the Porsche is 13cm shorter (4,96m) so it's reasonable.

Twin Axial Flux motors on the rear axle seemed heavily encased in a thick subframe (which also connects the multi link rear suspension), maybe due to the massive torque of 2000nm combined with the front motor.

Full suspension system seems quite complex with some interesting 3D printed lower arms in the front suspension.

IMHO, Mercedes has design-wise, the ugliest, least desirable line up of all carmakers I can think of.
Just Peugeot with their over designed crap comes close.

Is the interior made by Aliexpress aroma diffuser or cheap bluetooth speakers manufacturers?

Thankfully, Wagener is gone. Overrated, pompous designer with grandiose delusion.

Scathing!

Gorden really damaged this brand lately. How did Ola confirm this thing even?🙆‍♂️
Personally, I think Ola is also damaging the brand, he is not paying attention to the regular customers and what things matter to them. Mercedes monitoring the attention to detail quality in their latest products facelifts is definitely below par. The thick bezel screens on the S-class and the GLE/GLS together with the black piano black trim on the door cards is totally unacceptable for cars costing more than $100K. The horrible capacitive controls on the steering wheels also is not easy to use and looks cheap. There are many cheaper cars coming from Hyundai/Kia and now even the VW ID Polo that have screens with thinner bezels. Gees the ID Polo costs a third of the price and doesn't have shiny piano plastic in the cabin at all and has proper buttons on the steering wheel.

@Uygar: Congrats on your "Vision" of the car presented on autoevolution.com. You've really nailed it in several aspects in which M-B AMG designers failed to do so. Especially the rear 3/4 view image. So SPOT ON. Cool "birdeyes" as well. Impressive pieces of work.
Wait what? I had no idea, lol. Glad you liked it though, means a lot.

BTW no armrest and no cupholders in the back but 4 zone climate control WTF
They worried that someone sitting in the back will be so far pushed back in the seat they won't be able to put their drink down in the cupholder so they left them out 😂

Nothing innovative or special? Tough words considering the drive is supposed to be a revelation. High horsepower numbers aren’t really the differentiating factor with EVs. Let’s see how things performs before lack of innovation or lack of aggression is claimed. That’s not to be determine by looking at the car.
I was referring exclusively to the design, nothing but praise for the the inner workings, which appears to be top-notch, and possibly its handling for this class as well, although we'll have to see.

And let’s be clear, you especially were never going to get butterflies looking at any Mercedes. ;)
Actually, it's not like that., the last Mercedes = "butterflies" were the last S-Class coupe, the W124/W205/W213/W222, the SLR/SLS, and so many others. Mercedes have always done that for me. Seeing the R129 made me forget who I was with, what I was wearing, and the city I was in.

In my opinion, this doesn't produce the sensations it should at this level, perhaps I'm just fed up with this endless repetition of "pure and sensual roundness." You can't blame me for wanting and expecting more from a brand that should be delivering more.

I see that no one can explain the bizarre nature of how such a prominent design element as the light bar, which changes the identity of a car's front end, is left to the customers' discretion. It's the epitome of insecurity: "We made a mistake, or maybe not," you decide...
