GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) 2026 AMG GT 4-Door Vision EV

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) is the first generation five-door variant of the AMG GT two-door sports car. Production: September 2018– Model years: 2019–
Technically this car is a knockout for EV performance saloons. At the moment it has charging figures that make ICE saloons look irrelevant. 11min to charge from 10 to 80% and 460km in 10min of charging is the standout figures that will make long journeys in this car an absolute pleasure. I do think Mercedes has deliberately limited the car to 600kw to cater for the charging stations available in Europe. If they have to increase stations to 1000kw of charging capacity then for sure they will bring out the Concept Car specs of 1040kw of charging capacity and increased output of 1360PS (1000kw) and up.

At first I was initially disappointed they didnt go full out and launch the GT63 with 1360PS but nevertheless 1170PS (860kw) and 0-100 in 2,1sec (1ft rollout) and 6.4sec to 200kmh is damn fast enough. Just think about this it is only 30PS less powerful and 0,6sec slower to 200kmh than the $4mill Ferrari F80. So 230K Euros doesn't seem that expensive after all.

Seven years since the Taycan

I was just thinking along the lines of your rear lighting units + surround proposal.

Could Manufaktur make something similar possible ? Perhaps incorporated into a more mature, classically elegant package...

Amazing what a change in colour can do to a car!! That looks absolutely gorgeous in that chocolate metallic colour.

The rear is incomprehensible and incoherent aesthetically speaking, it doesn't work, but the idea of the enormous black background is striking, the tiny lights and the general form are what don't fit .
The front is predictable; Mercedes has given up on front ends, nothing innovative or special for your halo car. The profile is elegant, albeit very Taycan-esque. In short, it's clear that it's a few years behind the times, it doesn't innovate, nor is it very representative of the aggression they're "selling" us. It doesn't give you butterflies at first sight, as every Mercedes should and this one in particular.
That said, I repeat that the profile is much better than that of the previous AMG GT4.

Front end just looks terrible. Just bad.
Rear is better then expected, but those the 3-pointed star lights reminds me of the biohazard symbol and not afterburners.
Side profile is fine though nothing about is says "Mercedes-Benz" or "AMG."
Overall exterior aesthetics are just middling and m'eh.
Drivetrain technology is interesting, but it's a shame that the overall design and current state of BEVs (in the States, at least, or anywhere that isn't China or Western Europe) puts it at such a disadvantage.

I was about to say. If you really cover the star logos there’s nothing that indicates it’s a Benz. It looks anonymous, and somewhat Chinese.

Nothing innovative or special? Tough words considering the drive is supposed to be a revelation. High horsepower numbers aren’t really the differentiating factor with EVs. Let’s see how things performs before lack of innovation or lack of aggression is claimed. That’s not to be determine by looking at the car.

And let’s be clear, you especially were never going to get butterflies looking at any Mercedes. ;)

The new M3 EV will feature a 'fake' sound system that mimics the sound of a V10 engine; if the new M3 is more powerful, cheaper and faster, it’s really going to be a challenge to justify this new AMG GT EV.

The "Fake" V10 sound is very promising too. (At 7:40)

There are going to be any number of high performance EVs that will be similarly quick, including other vehicles within the AMG portfolio. It's just not that hard to make mega power with EVs. The differentiating factor will be how they drive...and that's not to say BMW is going to scrimp in that department either.

Don't forget the AMG specific models are now supposed to have their own styling language. It's not supposed to scream Mercedes. I do like a few of the elements and I actually think the rear was headed in an interesting direction...didn't nail it though. Wagener took some risks during his career but the wilder ones just haven't been as well resolved as I would've hoped.

I like this more than I thought I would. I still have some reservations, but they are gradually dissipating. I am a huge fan of the design of the GT coupe, and this EV is essentially a four-door version of that design language.

I am torn between the visceral hate of the front light bar and the lack of "finished" cohesion of the version without it. As Remove Before Race's Raz Roken put it, this must have been a last-minute change based on dealer feedback. I don't like the extra lights that come with the light bar package (including the ones on the faux Panamericana grille. I think the overall acceptance of this car's look is highly color specific. I wonder what a Patagonia Red version looks like.

I have a ton of questions: Does the 55 also have three motors, just detuned? Or does it have two? I am tempted for this to be my first EV car, but there is no way in hell I would be able to justify going for the 63, which it sounds like it's going to approach or break $200,000. I hope the 55 ends up being offered near $130,000 with decent specs. 503 hp continuously is plenty enough for me with 805 available to get crazy.

Taycan will be no more and bascially become a Panamera EV.

Indeed, rumours regarding "convergence" persist. And applying the Panamera nomenclature is allegedly also being favoured. This constitues a change of original plans and may very well push back the official presentation by a year or two. Porsche finds itself in treacherous currents and little is irreversibly chisled in stone.

When thinking about all the master class designed cars Mercedes has given us during the last 100 years, it is very sad to observe what they are presenting here.
