Here's the thing.... Nobody is saying that design doesn't needs to be stirred up. Complacency doesn't get the blood flowing. But it doesn't have to be so bleeding hideous. For example, upon its debut, the VFL concept certainly stirred the pot, but it was also beautiful. If these renders are anything to go by, it stirs the pot, but it doesn't pull at the heart, rather it makes my gag reflex work overtime. And unfortunately there've been too many renders with similar design themes which leads me to believe that there's some truth in these renders.

BMW has made some good looking concepts and some bad looking ones. Regretfully, only the bad looking ones transform into actual cars (iNext, X7, although the final result in both these cases is better than the concept).

Thankfully it’s not going to look like that.
The disguise and additional disguised panelling (Remember that fortune cookie message “Rivets are a form of deception”
Is doing it’s job. Especially at the key points at each end of the design. Indeed so is the front end.
My impression is that it is definitely at the cutting edge of sharper surface design. The opposite as radical as the E65 was more rounded.

BMW truly has the best designers! The beautiful 4-Series, this upcoming 7-Series, and the rendered X8 all depict BMW's talent of designing masterpieces. I really hope this 7-Series looks like the renders and judging by the large amount of renders featuring this design, I may get my wish.

Well, however we wish that it will look much better than the renders, most likely it won’t. All their recent cars were very clearly predictable during the development phase, the 4 series, the 5LCI, the X7 and of course the new curse the iX. What troubles me more actually is that they are doing such a poor job by decision, and not by lack of creativity or skilled people. In the iX presentation video they were showing those negative comments all the time, but meanwhile wanted to show that actually this is cool, it’s like people weighing 150kg say they are beautiful, it’s a typical woke approach, and they will surely find people who are into this, but as it is in the world, they will be a very small minority.

Hmmm. Not sure if Sarcasm?

A team full of talent!

Beware what you wish, you just might get it.
I am slowly losing hope in BMW design after seeing the ugly iX today I am expecting something another E65 clone to come out of this new 7 series in 2022.

So if the iNext is any indication of the next 7er interior, I think we will be okay.

You like that interior? Whom would have thought....

And the good ones get dumbed down so severely they become ugly too. You missed that little detail (now you can go away ;) :p )

Not just design. I mean really, none of their cars drive like a BMW either... BMW's benchmark 3er feels kinda silly even in Sport+, but maybe there's just something wrong with me.

No definitely not! I wholeheartedly love these new designs! I hope BMW spreads it across their entire lineup (of course with differentiation). I mean look at the handsome iNext, who can truly say that is an ugly design? I may switch back to a Bimmer with all of these homeruns scheduled!

Hopefully you're right and let's hope it's actually attractive.

@SCOTT27 Speculation or have you been prevy to the design?

@klier as far as the inext interior, I think it's pretty minimalist... which isn't bad and is quite the opposite approach of the s class. So if the 7er builds on this with a more luxury, I think it will satisfy. Plus I have to give it is credit for looking like a concept.

I dont understand why everyone is thinking there will be “2-floor” front lights ?

Also the actual model has this big bulge over the lights, so will the new one. Its bimmers new design language.

I’ quite 100 % that the i7 will not have 2-floor lights

Because the headlights that we do see on the prototypes are set really low on the front fascia, like E31 low, which suggests that they would look out of place with the current design paradigm and that a second pair of lights has to be lurking underneath the cladding

The same goes for the X8, where the low headlights look even more out of place on the tall front fascia, hinting even harder at a second pair of lights hiding underneath the camo, and if that is true for the X8 then it is likely the same design formula has been applied to the 7er

@advantage20

Sorry, I removed your first post just as you deleted the second. I've reinstated the second since it had the additional image.

If you look at the first spy shots of the BMW iX, you'll see that the headlights where placed lower than on the actual model. Lets hope it will be the same way with the next 7 series
