If this car is truly a middle child replacement then it should have I4, I6 and V8s. It is a CLK in everything but name. If it’s all I4s then forget it.

I would imagine it to effectively be a 2-door W206 C-Class. They can say it lands between the previous C-class Coupe and E-Class Coupe because that’s where the C-Class sedan also lands as it’s bigger than the W205. Engine lineup probably exactly the same as the C-Class sedan less the plug-in hybrid options

Then it's a failure in my book. 4-cylinders are not luxury. Sports cars maybe, but not luxury. A midsize convertible at Mercedes-Benz needs an I6 and a V8 otherwise just do an EV and get it over with.

For EV coupes and convertibles I would think we will have to wait until around 2030. We are supposed to get a C-Class EV around 2026. But if we assume a 7-year lifecycle for the 2023 CLE, then it would be due for replacement in 2030 at which time it would have to be full EV.

Oh I agree man.. I hope future 30i RWD BMWs switch to the detuned B58 instead of B48. The EA888 is definitely the least luxury part of my car too, sounds kinda unrefined from inside but is nice outside.

We know Mercedes can definitely fit the i6 and V8 in C Class and CLE because MRA II supports it. I just don't know what the real reasoning behind not adding them is.. cost cutting perhaps? I don't buy their excuses given to media for not including them.

Nice to see that the project is ongoing.

I imagine that we'll soon be seeing the first coupe prototypes.

Nothing new stylistically, looks like any other Benz but it does look good.

This has some seriously sexy proportions for a 4-seat Benz convertible. Looks better than the E and C Cabrios proportion wise and the current E Cabrio is a really good looking car IMO. I just hope they don't kill the car by not giving it the engines it deserves.

So its smaller then the cureent E ?

I'm hoping that since it's clE and not clC, they'll give it the V8 from the E Class, but we'll see.

I doubt very much we see a V8 maybe or even a in line 6

Hope though the car looks sleek would deserve a V8

It will have all of the 4-cylinder engines it wants.

I'm not even sure, if the new e-class W214 will get a V8. I think it's likey but not 100% certain.
W214 will have V8s; well the last time I saw the engine line-up they were still there. I believe there was an inline-6 planned for the C236/A236 but I won't be surprised if it was scrapped since it's essentially a W206, and the inline-6 W206 was eliminated from the line-up years ago.

Will this remain as a 2 door only entry or is there info on a 4 door coupe variant as well?

There certainly was a 4-door variant planned, (I believe it was code X236), but I do not know far they went with the development or if it's even still coming.
