2022 Lexus NX Leaked In Official Video, See It Inside And Out

It was only about a month ago when the new Lexus NX was caught testing for the first time, and to our surprise, the camouflage is all gone now. Someone accidentally (or not) published what looks like an official video of the luxury crossover on YouTube, revealing the revamped NX in full. The clip is no longer available on the video hosting platform, but a Redditor acted quickly and uploaded it on Streamable where it’s still available at the moment of writing.

Judging by the German license plate, the leak might originate from Europe, and it shows the NX 200, presumably the entry-level variant. Oddly enough, the end of the video says “NX 350h” before referring to an upcoming 450h+ variant with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. All that really matters is the styling has now leaked in full.

The exterior appearance is not a great departure from the current model, but there are some changes worth mentioning. The LED daytime running lights are now integrated into the main headlights to enable a cleaner look of the front end. The spindle grille is still very much on the large side and boasts a new pattern with vertical ornaments.

The telltale sign we’re looking at the second generation is at the back where the NX is the latest model to get an LED light bar. It also appears to have a pair of faux exhaust tips and there’s a good chance those vertical air vents are also just for show. Overall, Lexus has sharpened up the design here and there without straying too far from the familiar formula.

It’s a different story on the inside where the 2022 NX has a significantly revamped appearance. For starters, it ditches the much-criticized touchpad and comes with a large touchscreen. There are separate conventional controls for the dual-zone climate settings, along with a rotary knob for the driving modes. We’re also noticing a generously sized wireless charging pad, a fully digital driver’s display, a more compact gear lever, a head-up display, new switchgear, and no more analog clock.

Curiously, even though the exterior badge clearly says NX 200, we can’t help but notice there’s an EV mode button between the seats, so maybe this is the NX 350h after all as mentioned at the end of the video. As for the PHEV variant, it is believed it will adopt the powertrain from the Toyota RAV4 Prime, but nothing is official yet.

With the new NX expected for the 2022 model year, the world premiere could take place in the coming months. Perhaps Lexus will move the premiere forward since the cat is pretty much out of the bag now.

This is as new a model as my ass thinks my underwear is every single time I put it on

Translation : It cannot tell the f#cking difference

Not sure if it is new like the IS, but regardless it is amazing how far behind Lexus has fallen in design and technology.

Wow, a new Lexus interior layout? New buttons? For once not from 2005? I never thought I will live to see this day. Finally Lexus is doing something right. Exterior design is just very cool, and finally a decent looking and creative, new interior design.

While it does look much better than the current Lexi interiors, it's not exactly moving the game. Also could do without all the piano black. Between that and the touch screen, it'll be fingerprints galore. The exterior is a mature, refined evolution of the design language and looks rather handsome. Either I am used the gigantic maw of a grille or that it's more integrated into the design, I quite like the front and back.

Minor point: I wish they'd continue using that volume knob/tuner set-up from the LS. I thought that was a clever little feature.

Regarding whether it's new or not, unless the current NX is on the TNGA platform (I can't remember off the top of my head), this is a new platform (TNGA-K if I remember correctly) and generally has been praised by journalists.

Well, regarding material I can’t argue, the overuse of piano black can be problematic but this is what we see with the Germans as well, especially Audi and recently MB with the S and C center consoles. That’s a valid point. But regarding the layout, for once it’s a Lexus interior that looks cohesive, it finally looks like the work of a team that worked together, and not only some part of it which was glued to the rest of the unique features. That was and is very annoying in their other models. If not for the ugly interiors, I know many people who would be happier driving a Lexus than it’s German alternatives. So it’s a great step in the right direction imho.

Yup, not a fan of it in the Germans either. Though I am more annoyed with them since I hold them at a higher bar.

Definitely. Though I thought the LS and LC have a cohesive design language, their only shortfall is the infotainment system. Facelifted LS employed a stop-gap with that ghastly tacked on touchscreen. Recent article stated that US dealers were previewed the new user interface and was received positively.

new platform. only IS and RC are on old platofrm.

it remains a CUV which is as uninteresting as any German CUV (except Touareg, Macan and GLC Coupe).

Agreed. This looks great.

Lexus is making noise and I like it. First the IS500 V8 throwback sedan and now this. I actually see a Lexus specific interior on one of their lower level vehicles for a change. WOW. Now hopefully they go all the way and actually update the sorry engines too. The NX would be a perfect for a F Sport Performance variant, which isn't a full on F model. Real HP, AWD, and actual handling.

M

Looks like a massive upgrade for their infotainment system. I haven't seen Apple Music, Spotify, Audible, etc. all directly integrated like that before

Except for that massive screen the interior looks slightly dated, especially the air vents and center console look like many Toyota models from the 2000's
