Here it is folks, complete with the customary lace curtains.

The Toyota Century is built specifically for the Japanese market. It is very rare and prestigious.

In japan, the Toyota Century is not bought as a statement of wealth, it is a symbol of power and social rank that commands respect. They are always chauffeur-driven.

Used by Japan's highest-ranking government officials, most important tycoons, the Japanese Emperor, and the Yakuza.

I believe that this car is considered the true flagship of Toyota, and the timing is appropriate for releasing a new generation as it has been 50 years since the inception of the first generation.

You can feel that this is the classic Japanese vision of a luxury car when you see cloth (wool, maybe?) interior, and the somehow block-ish, symmetric dashboard (the overall appearance).

The diversity and the wide range of cars that Toyota has in its portfolio, especially cars that are exclusive to either the Japanese domestic market or selected markets, is something to be admired, and at the same time, doesn't seem always logical. Many cars are overlapped within the same class, and sometimes even a single brand name has different sub-brands (classic "framed doors" sedan, a hardtop "frame-less doors", a "sport" model, etc...).

Fabric seat for a flagship car ?
Leather is available but wool upholstery is the preferred choice.

A lot of old limousines (like Rolls-Royce Phantoms from the past) have fine-quality wool upholstery for rear passenger and leather for the chauffeur.

Apparently you can have leather, but most buyers find it too noisy.
Thank you :)

Those seats look soooooooooooooooooooo comfortable.

Ditto. Imagine reclining in them after a 7 course meal.

If I remember correctly wool seats are an option on the new Velar. Interior designers st both Volvo and JRL have recently discussed desires to use other luxurious or high tech(think athletic leisure clothes) materials other than leather.

Well I do like the wool more than the 'leatherette' as seen in an E Class - (I can't believe he said that!) :nailbiting:I'm now ducking for cover

While I understand, I am still disappointed that this no longer has a V12. I think this is re-using the now previous gen's LS600 powertrain. It annoys me that Toyota still insists on using a nickel-cadmium battery.

The multi-adjustable seats are equipped with fuzzy logic I see...

Curiously i find a certain charm to it, i even think its interior has more character than the lexus ones.

While I am curious about the wood work (the lighter wood looks to be bamboo, not sure about the darker-stained wood. Bamboo also?), but I actually prefer the more dynamic interior theme of the new LS. However, the upright, formal interior works on the Century as it's more dignified and understated, befitting a statesperson. Also while I applaud the use of wool (even though I'd find it personally itchy) and other material that's not leather or chintzy (i.e. leatherette, vinyl), I'd rather it didn't look so mousey.

The exterior maintains that conservative American look that the Japanese designers adopted in 1960's. In black, it reminds me of an old-school Lincoln Continental. Only thing missing are the rear coach doors.
