Both cars look stunning, but I prefer the a$$ of the W213, because it looks like an S-Class :D Hence I vote for the E.
Maybe I will withdraw my vote when I see the G30 fullblown in reallife :)

The 5 is a typical BMW and the E a typical Mercedes.
I have voted for BMW. What else.
Not only because I prefer BMW in general. I prefer also the more angular design of BMW and Audi. Therefore I would referred to sedans prefer an Audi towards Mercedes.

f#ck this is hard.

Ok.

Rear: E class easy ( im really bothered by the real estate the rear lights hog on the 5er)
Side: Draw
Front: 5er easy ( im really bothered by the graphics of the headlights on the E)

So far a draw.

Interior: Ownage

So by a thin margin the E class, but i wouldn't blame anyone who takes the 5er. Its really down to what you look for in a car, they are VERY different.

5 series is the choice, judging from the pictures. But ironically, in the next segment its the S class that is the choice. Although E and 7 both look so close to their siblings.

I voted for the E class for its high class masterpiece interior with those trims and dashboard design with ambient lightning. The interior of the E is one of the best available on the whole market right now. It`s stunning. Exterior wise they are very very different and you can see that the 2 manufacturers came back to their roots with a very aggresive look on 5 series which speaks about how sporty this car should be and a very elegant, luxurious E class. I can`t decide on exterior design as it would be like you want to compare Rolls Royce with Aventador. I like both of them but I would buy myself an E class.

E-Class for me.

It's classy, elegant, and has clean lines. Also, I dig the Starship Enterprise dashboard.

But that doesn't mean I don't like the new 5-Series. I think it just comes down to personal preference.

E Class Easy For me especially after sitting in the new 7 today.

Front i think the E class lights dont look perfect so for front i take the 5 series although it also is not perfect but its better then E in pics.

Side without a doubt the E..Saw the 7 today that hockey stick thing looks wierd. Also the previous 5 i think had better side profile.

Rear easy the E for me.

Interior the E class is on a different level let me explain i know some fans may have a go at me but this is from my sitting in the 7 today.E class switches is superior to the 7 example the side window button on 7 feel thin compared the the c class let alone E class. The general switches like on the steering and the centre console feel that bit better on the E then the 7 to me.

Also the screens on the E is on a different level then the 7 way way superior the display and the look.

The 7 has gesture control which is cool tech and i did like the extra option of touch screen.

Overall they both cars that serve their clients but for me the E is a superior car in terms of interior by a handsome margin.

exterior the E needs better headlights the rest is great.

At first I didn't feel blown away by this 5-series, thinking its too much of an evolution over the previous F10, but the more I see the official pics coming out of the G30 the more I am liking it. Typical BMW sporty looks and great interior with typically great BMW ergonomics and high tech look.

Its a tough choice between this and the new E-class as the Mercedes is a fantastic looking car in AMG guise and with a brilliant looking interior.

So I choose the E-class by a slim margin, but I would love to drive and own the BMW even still, anyone of these benchmark cars is a winner in my books

Exterior: 5 series M pack over the E class wtih AMG pack
E class with the luxury pack over the 5 series with the luxury line.

Interior: Close call, but the E class just edges ahead, the dashboard is less cluttered and I prefer the flowing design.

Exterior: Hands down BMW just looks more special than the E and I'm sure in person it will look much better .

Interior: its a draw , but if a gun was held to my head is give the slight edge to the E class simply because they've completely redesigned it from the W212.

Tech : BMW has every thing available in the E class and more eg, Gesture control, first car with wireless apple car play, rear wheel steering and more advanced informat system

V8 M550i over V6 E43 AMG

Driving dynamics: (to be continued)

The above reasons is why I choose the 5 series.

Hard choice but I find the BMW design more modern with its angles, both inside and outside. I saw my first E Class in street yesterday and found it a little bland and I don't expect similar impression from the BMW which gets my vote.

On the exterior, the front of the E class is ruined by that absolutely horrible hood shutline. Makes it look cheap to me. For the rest, the car is handsome from the outside, but the proportions of the Bimmer are better. The E class looks higher and more narrow (I don't know if this is actually the case, I'll check the dimensions later).

From the inside I also like the modern yet typical BMW better.

Both cars are fantastic, the 5er wins.

The dimensions:

mercedes_benz-e-class_w213_facts_technicaldata_dimensions_03_715x230_10-2015.webp

- BMW longer front overhang
- Mercedes longer rear overhang
- BMW a longer wheelbase
- BMW a little longer
- BMW a little wider
- BMW a little lower

- BMW more headroom in the back
- Mercedes more headroom in the front
- BMW wider on the inside in the front
- Mercedes wider on the inside in the back

- no data from BMW on the size of the seats. And I couldn't be bothered looking for the size of the booth, but I am sure the E class wins here, as it usually does.

Proportion wise BMW wins, interior about equal.

So by a thin margin the E class, but i wouldn't blame anyone who takes the 5er. Its really down to what you look for in a car, they are VERY different.

That interior does it for me too. It punches above its class and even rivals the S-Class, 7-Series and A8 in style. On the outside, it's a tie. Both cars are conservative and don't make my heart flutter.
