Cadillac recently announced the 2015 ATS Sedan would be given a minor facelift and one of our readers has managed to catch the model while it was being filmed in Canada.

Following in the footsteps of the 2015 ATS Coupe, the ATS Sedan adopts a new front bumper and a revised grille that features the company's controversial wreathless crest. Additional changes are limited but the model will be offered in two new colors including Crystal White Tricoat and Dark Adriatic Blue Metallic.

The cabin will also receive revised upholstery and trim combinations as well as additional safety and convenience features. Notable highlights include Siri Eyes Free compatibility, a Text Message Alerts function (which can read text messages aloud) and a Teen Driver function which enables owners to set a radio volume limit and a speed warning between 40-70 mph (64-112 km/h) - among other things. The model can also be equipped with a new Cadillac DockSpot inductive charger which can recharge compatible smartphones wirelessly.

An official unveiling is scheduled for July or August, so stay tuned for full details.

2015 Cadillac ATS Receives ZF Lenksysteme Electric Power Steering

Although electric power steering systems don't have as many fans as the good ol' hydraulic assist, automotive technology is a fickle friend and this change is slowly but steadily becoming the industry standard. So how does the ZF Lenksysteme system improve the dynamic credentials of the 2015 Cadillac ATS sedan & coupe?

ZF Lenksysteme and Cadillac engineers teamed up to create what the manufacturer describes as being a"premium electric power steering" system that "refines ride without sacrificing handling." We can't really put our finger on that unless we spend a little time behind the wheel of the 2015 Cadillac ATS and we all know that practice rarely lives up to what's promised in theory.

Nevertheless, there are some good sides to the system that are certain to offer an enhanced driving experience in real life situations. Starting with the mechanical steering system, the "electronic" part offers a wide range of assist depending on velocity, steering angle and the car's chassis mode. Simply put, it blends good steering feedback at highway speeds without sacrificing turning radius in those tight parking spaces in the urban jungle.

Kevin Woodward from ZF Lenksysteme explains that "the electronic power assist steering gives a wider range of assist, resulting in an incredibly communicative, well-weighted and responsive steering experience," thanks to revised programming within the electronic control unit. Another good point of electric steering compared to a hydraulic system is that it saves fuel since engine power isn't directly required to assist gear movement.

ZF Lenksysteme and Cadillac tell that the premium electric power steering that equips the 2015 model year Cadillac ATS sedan & coupe has great torsional stiffness and low operating friction to enhance the feel of the wheel with "almost perfect linear response." Additionally, the steering column and intermediate shaft feature stiff, direct-acting and low-friction ball bearing designs for a more immediate, connected-to-the-road feel for the driver.

Cadillac's ATS-V Coupe BMW M4 Fighter Rendered

The Cadillac ATS-VCoupe is currently undergoing testing around the Nürburgring, or was earlier this month when our spies were able to capture the best shots of it so far.
The car featured less extreme camouflage, and we were able to make out the basic lines of the car; we along with digital modifier X-Tomi who made up the ATS-V rendering you see below, based on a photo of the regular coupe – sans the cattle catcher grille of the testers.
Said to wield the power of the CTS V-Sport’s 3.6-liter V6 twin turbo, it should be good for at least 420 hp which it will be able to send to the rears, possibly either via a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto; even a dual clutch was discussed, but is not a sure thing.

The engine has not been officially confirmed, and previous reports even suggested it could be powered by a V8; there would be a regular ATS-V with the V6, and a more extreme ATS-V+ that would get the two extra cylinders.

Now that sounds just about as German as the rest of their approach to this coupe (and the rest of the range, frankly), so we’ll buy it until proven otherwise.

For both the ATS and CTS:

Slow demand for ATS and CTS forces Cadillac to eliminate one production shift

350 workers will be laid off in January

General Motors will eliminate one of the production shifts in Michigan where they are assembling the ATS and CTS.

The announcement was made earlier this week by company spokesman Bill Grotz and this decision is part of Cadillac's president Johan de Nysschen plan to eliminate excess production to better match demand, a problem which has led to high inventory levels over the last year. As a consequence, production at the Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan will be reduced to only one shift.

Starting January 2015, approximately 350 workers will be laid off so the number of employees will be diminished to around 1,075 people. Grotz specified the remaining shift will produce more cars than before while the second shift will likely be reintroduced at the arrival of the next-gen Chevrolet Camaro which will be produced in Michigan unlike the current gen assembled in Oshawa, Canada. Sources cited by Automotive News are saying the new Camaro is scheduled to go into production towards the end of next year as a 2016MY.

As a final note, one of the reasons for the CTS's decreasing demand has to do with the fact that some dealers have jacked up the price of several versions by $10,000 which has made some returning clients reorient to another brand.
