XE 2014 Jaguar XE To Rival Boxster: Report

The Jaguar XE (X760) is a front engine, rear- or all-wheel drive four-door compact-executive saloon manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover and marketed under their Jaguar marque for model years 2016–2024 — across a single generation. The successor to the X-Type, it was designed by Ian Callum and launched at the October 2014 Paris Motor Show. Production of the XE ceased in mid-2024.

As the subject of literally years of speculation and rumors, Jaguar's XE sports car is one of the most hotly anticipated arrivals of the next few years. It is expected to draw ideological, if not literal, inspiration from the classic E-Type, and will "blow the rest of the industry away" according to the latest report.

Aiming at Porsche Boxster levels of performance, the upcoming 2014 Jaguar XE has already been spied in testing. The styling is certainly not what you'd call retro in any way, but the lines are still all Jaguar, just interpreted in a smaller package.

That's just as we've expected, but according to an unnamed "insider" speaking with Autocar, the new XE's styling is part of a new design language that "express[es] lightness."

Jaguars are generally light for what they are--the company's extensive use of aluminum has been a core part of its process since the last few years of the previous XJ--itself a smart and spry performer in supercharged trims, despite the vintage clothes.

What, precisely, can we expect of the XE? It's still too early to tell. We guesstimate that the car will sport a V-6 engine in the 300-horsepower range and weigh in somewhere around the 3,000-pound mark, if its goal is to keep pace with the Boxster. Being more powerful and lighter wouldn't hurt--perhaps in an XE-S variant--as the Boxster's mid-engined design gives it certain inherent advantages over a front-engined car. We expect the car to debut late in 2013 for the 2014 model year.

Isn't that an XK?

I really hope Jaguar gets up and rolling, I think the Luxury Market needs a bonafide Brit to battle against the popular Germans, a Brit that doesn't cost a house and a leg. Also, they have some of the nicest cars in their classes IMO.

I also think that a Jaguar XJ is slowly luring me in, in the form of a white color, and I'd be really considering aiming for one if it weren't for my discomfort in Jaguars viability and sustainability.... Not to mention my waiting to see how the Tata ownership plays out.

Dayumn!!!! And this is coming from a Vert hater.

Jag is back!
