2014 E-Class f/l design discussion and alternate impression exercise

It`s going to be interesting to see how the next E turns out. It will indeed adopt the anti-wedge shape and dropping line.
I however don`t want to see the angular theme go. When done right there is a since of power in it... this falls on who can play with lines and shapes to get it right.

I believe it was Gianclaudio who said sometime back, after the CLS MB went down-hill with headlights...
eye-brows too big on SL exc exc... to an extent I agree. (The SL needs a make-over and the ML is rather dull)

Yes, it was me :D
The "eyebrow" design look too much like an after though rather than the more congruent design on CLS. I've seen the ML without the eyebrows and looks better, IMO.

I cannot disagree with that. One of the reasons' the CLS is more subtle is because it uses it`s eyebrows as signal indicators, not day-time runners like it`s brother the S-Class. The focus is more on it`s upper and lower eyelids because these are it`s day-time runners. eyes, eyelids, eyeballs. Shame the E didn`t turn out this well.

OT, care to post that picture of the ML when you get a chance? I`d like to see that.

What I like particularly in your drawing is the refined agressiveness. Very nice solution with the headlights.

Overall direction of headlightdesign Mercedes-benz I don't applaude at the moment. It looks looks too much the same (A/B-Klasse, ML-Klasse, GL-Klasse and even SL-Klasse). I sure do hope S-Klasse looks in the flesh much more different. Only 9 days to go and we'll know.

Hay thanks... fact is I didn`t come up with those overnight. It took about 4-days of playing with different shapes. Imagine the new E63 with a face like that in your rear veiw mirror.
I don`t think you would forget it.

(Those headlights would look pretty cool on the SL I think. The SL would need a total redesign though.)

^ I don't think either. I would then even like to see it's rearside. I mean, such headlights....

In my opinion, and it hurts to say so, this generation SL is more or less lost, designwise. :(

Sure, no problem;

Damn, thats just too plain-Jane for me. Any dash of spice you can add to the ML (if it`s not over done) is gonna help.

I see you've got talent :) I was wondering how the classic grill combined with the star on the hood would look on the current CLS. If you have the time, I would be much obliged if you made such a designdrawing. If not, it's ok. I just keep on admiring your AMG solution.

Hate to burst your bubble but that might present a problem. (This is the same idea MB had when thay slapped the sports-car grill on the E-Class.) you see the designers at MB pointed out that the front of the CLS is centered around that specific grill design. Jast as the E-Class is really designed for it`s traditional grill. It`s a blue-print that should not be played with, at least imo. If you change the grill your going to have to change the entire front end.

I agree and understand, but I'm still wondering how it would/could look like. You're probably right though, that it won't look that beautiful, because of the initial designpoint (starcentred grill on CLS)
