Cadillac CTS 2014 Cadillac CTS Set For 2013 New York Auto Show: Report

The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations. Initially available as a 4-door sedan using the GM Sigma platform, GM offered the second generation CTS in 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon, and the third generation as a sedan, using a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform. High performance sedan variants were offered for each generation, as the CTS-V—with wagon and coupe variants offered for the second generation.

The completely redesigned 2014 Cadillac CTS will reportedly make its world debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show in late March.

The car is then expected to hit showrooms this fall, followed by the redesigned 2014 Cadillac Escalade early next year.

The information is said to come from General Motors officials speaking at a recent National Automobile Dealers Association convention in Orlando, Florida, attended by Autoweek.

The CTS is one of the most popular models for Cadillac, though the current model, first launched for 2008, is starting to show its age against rivals as well as Cadillac’s own ATS.

Cadillac’s sales dropped 2 percent in the U.S. last year but it’s hoped the new CTS will help turn things around. The ATS is already off to a great start, and the new CTS, which will grow in size to better match the competition, should continue the charge.

We’ve been spying prototypes for the car for over a year and they show a significantly larger body, which should translate to more interior space. Handling and dynamics should also be much improved thanks to the adoption of GM’s brilliant Alpha rear-wheel-drive platform.

In addition to an impressive platform, the new CTS should also benefit from some powerful yet fuel efficient engines. The base model will likely remain a V-6 and is expected to be joined by a twin-turbocharged model, also a V-6. The range-topper, the CTS-V, should retain its supercharged V-8 engine.

Inside, there will be plenty of luxury and generous space for five adults. Dominating the cabin will be a large capacitive touch-screen display for the CUE interface system, which we’ll be seeing on all new Cadillacs.

What’s uncertain is the return of additional CTS bodystyles, such as the coupe and wagon. This is because there’s a chance Cadillac may derive its new coupe and convertible models from the smaller ATS and leave the wagon bodystyle for other brands.

The first press day for the 2013 New York Auto Show commences on March 27. While you await the 2014 Cadillac CTS’ debut, follow this link to watch a video of a prototype racing around the Nürburgring.

These appear to be leaked photos of the 2014 Cadillac CTS! I was hoping for it to resemble that fancy ps job as above. I should have known… coming from GM the design is going to have some very generic, dated elements.

The back is just typical, a bit dull. Common Cadillac design. That front, oh my, need to see more of that.

"A replacement for Cadillac's distinctive CTS large car is being readied for the 2014 model year. Even covered in the usual vinyl wrap and boxy covers, these new spy photos offer a wealth of clues about the new car.
While staying true to the familiar new Cadillac styling, the new CTS is expected to bring an update to the company's image. The car spied here shows a bigger grille and new bumpers, in line with the new ATS midsizer.
The cars pictured at the Nurburgring sport 'Twin Turbo' badging on the engine covers, pointing to a performance version of the popular sedan. The aero parts on the front bumper are likely to be exclusive to the quick version of the CTS.
It's not yet clear if the twin-turbo engine will replace the supercharged V8 in the CTS-V, although it is likely that powerhouse has some time and tricks up its sleeve yet.
More performance-indicating parts are at the rear, with an integrated diffuser joining a new rear bumper.
The CTS was something of a revelation for Cadillac. Once famed for its big, cushy sedans and coupes, the 2002 CTS brought a harder edge to the brand, propelling it away from its old-man-in-Florida image and towards the European sporty sedan market.
The CTS also featured heavily in the film The Matrix Reloaded, signalling Cadillac's intention to reach a younger audience. It was even sent it into battle against the European brands on their home turf.
The car returned the Caddy to its rear-wheel drive roots, too, lending even the softer base models a more sporty feel.
The second generation spawned a chopped coupe and sports wagon for the increasingly popular model, the car's sales barely dented through the GFC while picking up a generous haul of awards"

If you can make out the front and rear door cut-away with it`s ATS (almost Mercedes like anti-wedge profile)
this might might be a pretty good looking car. The new ATS is by far Cadillac`s best attempt at a 4-door sedan from a design pov imo.
This pretty much looks like it`s bigger brother which is going to be a plus.

I have to say that I like. Side mirrors look good too, ver small. So if the car is not sold in EU they don't have to respect that mirror size regulation?

The nameplate that turned Cadillac around will move slightly further upmarket when it is redesigned for 2014. Based on a series of spy shots of almost entirely uncovered 2014 CTS sedans, our illustrator has put together this exclusive first look at the next-generation CTS.

Set to debut late this month at the New York International Auto Show, the CTS will be tasked with competing more directly with cars like the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class than before. Previously, the CTS was priced more along the lines of the smaller BMW 3-Series andAudi A4, but it was sized more like those cars' bigger brothers.
But with the 2013 model year arrival of the smaller Cadillac ATS, the CTS is being pushed upmarket. ATS seems to be performing fairly well for Cadillac in the market, but expanding into a higher price class could prove to be a challenge for General Motors' luxury brand.

Cadillac thinks the next CTS will have what it takes to be a serious contender. Underneath, the new car will move to a version of the Alpha rear-drive platform that underpins the ATS. The CTS is expected to be a bit larger than the current model, which should put in more in line with its German rivals.

Under its hood, the CTS is expected to utilize its first-ever four-cylinder engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter unit likely to put out 270 horsepower. A 3.6-liter V6 with somewhere in the neighborhood of 330 ponies will also be on offer. An all-new twin-turbo six-cylinder rated at about 400 horsepower is also expected, although some rumors suggest that its introduction could be delayed.

A diesel engine is also rumored, but Cadillac will likely watch to see how BMW and Audi do with their 5-Series and A6 turbodiesels that will both arrive for the 2014 model year. Currently, only Mercedes-Benz offers a diesel in the premium midsize segment.

Once again, Cadillac will follow up with a third-generation, V8-powered CTS-V about a year after the standard model goes on sale.

Unfortunately, the coupe and wagon variants aren't likely to be offered again.

Look for more details to leak out over the next few weeks ahead of the 2014 Cadillac CTS' unveiling.

Official: All-New 2014 Cadillac CTS gets 420HP Twin-Turbo 3.6-liter V6

We suspected that the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan would be one of the five world premieres GM is preparing to bring to the New York Auto Show next week, and now it's official.

While the Detroit carmaker is holding back on the pictures, it confirmed details on the engine lineup, which is highlighted by a brand-new 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline unit paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission – both a first for the brand.

“The new Cadillac Twin-Turbo brings a new dimension of technologically advanced performance to the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan,” said David Leone, executive chief engineer. “Delivering power and sophistication, it marks another large step forward in the product-driven expansion of Cadillac.”

The new unit, which makes use of two-small turbochargers rather than a single, larger turbo, is rated at an SAE-certified 420 horsepower (426PS /313kW) and 430 lb.-ft. of torque (583 Nm), making it the most powerful V6 ever from General Motors.

It produces 118 horsepower per liter (88 kW/liter), which GM says is a better power density figure than the BMW 535i's 300hp turbocharged 3.0L six (100hp or 74kW / liter) and the 550i's 400hp twin-turbo 4.4L V8 (91hp or 68kW/liter).
With this engine, which is based on GM's naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6, and the new 8-speed automatic driving the rear wheels, the 2014 Cadillac CTS can reach 60 mph (96km/h) from a standstill in an estimated 4.6 seconds and top out at 170 mph (274km/h).

At launch, the 2014 CTS will also feature the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 rated at 321 horsepower, as well as a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering an estimated 272 horsepower, both of which can be equipped with AWD as an option.

With the V6 Twin-Turbo and a rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup, the 2014 CTS returns an estimated fuel economy of 17mpg city and 25mpg hwy (highway), while the 2.0-liter Turbo manages 19mpg city and 30mpg hwy with RWD, and 18mpg city and 28mpg hwy when opted with AWD, and the 3.6-liter unit, 19mpg and 28mpg with RWD, and 18mpg and 27mpg with AWD respectively.

Impressive!
This engine is more powerful than the 6.2liter V8 fitted to the Cadillac Escalade. It`s rated at 403hp and 417lb-ft.
