I guess I do see now the appeal the CLS still has over even the new E. I also hope the facelift improves, rather than detracts to the design (I thought it did well in the E).

Weight isn't coming down for the M5 this gen, so yes, more power is really needed. And optional AWD for the straight line lovers.

More power will make it more of a pig than it already is. The M5's problem is "precision". It's an incredible luxury car with gluttonous power, but it just isn't as good a performance "scalpel" as it can be, or its competitors apparently. I'd pick it in a second over any competitors to live with day to day, as an all around *vehicle*, but on a purely performance basis the chassis which derives from the F01 up to the Ghost.. which makes it such a quiet and solidly isolated luxury car to the point where it needs synthetic sounds inside.. is holding back the "M-ness".

IMO if "M" really want to sharpen the cars dynamics up, more power isn't the key, it's tweaking it as much as possible to put the power down to the ground.

Yeah same here. I really put my at off to MB, that they went all in with those new S-models. I really really respect them for that. They did what Audi and BMW didnt dare to do with the RS6/M5, meaning going all in and giving their beasts around 600hp. Respect!!

It needs the new systems the new E and S will be getting.

I think the CLS is still more luxurious.... Though a few extra luxuries could never hurt. Of course most important is all the new safety features.....
