Cayenne 2011 Porsche Cayenne Pre-Orders Beyond Expectations

The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV, and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle.

Lighter, nimbler, and much more attractively styled, the 2011 Porsche Cayenne is a definite improvement on the outgoing model, despite the loss of some of its off-roading capability. But let's face it: no one's buying the Cayenne to go take on the Rubicon or Moab. Early pre-orders for the new Cayenne in Europe are indicating the public feels the same way.

Michael Macht, Porsche's CEO, says the 2011 Porsche Cayenne's pre-orders are "clearly exceeding our expectations," according to a report from Bloomberg. The orders are coming from nearly all markets where the vehicle is up for order, which means essentially everywhere in Europe.

The news is also being taken as another indicator that the industry's decline over 2008 and 2009 is over, with things turning back up in terms of sales and volume.

The new Cayenne made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, revealing the sleeker look and new features, including an all-new Cayenne S Hybrid model. The hybrid isn't as thirsty as its brethren, rated at 28.7 mpg in the combined European cycle, but it's not a gutless wonder, either. With a supercharged 333-horsepower V-6 and a 47-horsepower electric motor, it delivers both brisk acceleration and the capability of driving up to 40 mph on electricity alone.

The Cayenne is a true Cinderalla story. Purists branded it a disgrace, industry rivals laughed and Porsche haters spat at it. Despite the negative odds, the car has comfortably established itself as a new member of the Porsche family rather than a one hit wonder riding on the wave of the SUV craze of 2001-2005.

Owners genuinely like the car as much as they like any car close to the heart of the people like the 3-Series, Golf or S-Class. Given that the previous generation served as VAG's cashcow for a good 8 years, a new model was overdue with Cayenne owners pregnant with lust for a successor.

Pricing might kill it though. It is dam expensive. Even here in UAE. the price jump is almost 20K Euro. As per my dealer, orders aren't that great so far.

The Turbo is just under £3,700 more expensive now. It might not be much of a problem if the price hike entails more standard options. Porsche customers are generally not highly price sensitive. PDK is a heavy £2,300 but to my surprise a good majority of the facelifted 911s I see on the roads are equipped with PDK.
