Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS)

The Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) evaluates vehicle dependability after three years of ownership. The study, redesigned for 2009, examines 202 problems in eight major problem categories and also provides replacement information for 66 key components. Overall performance is summarized with a problems-per-100-vehicles (PP100) metric.

Thanks for posting.

I can't remember if we ever established why we here in Europe have a hard time relating to this study?

Mercedes-Benz has improved greatly. This is the most important survey of them all, the real deal. We're looking at 2007 model year cars, and look where Mercedes is now. I just hope next year, which will look at 2008 models, doesn't drop them back down because of the new for 2008 C-Class. This is the survey that matters folks, not that 90 day crap. 1 year from CR and this one, the 3 year VDS from JD Powers are the ones IMO. They really show how the car holds up over time, not just the 90 day honeymoon period.

Thank you for posting this!

Some very interesting info..especially since I'm considering an '07 BMW 328i Coupe. Worrying about maintenance for a car that's over 3 years in age, and not to mention the cost to maintain a BMW if/when problems begin to arise.

Seems like BMW isn't tooooo bad, though still below the industry average. Hmmmm...
