E-Class 2009 E-Class Sedan & Estate (Spy pics & details)

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations. Produced since September 1953, the E-Class falls as a midrange in the Mercedes line-up, and has been marketed worldwide across five generations.
I think it's going to be quite a looker. Really liking that rear wheel arch. Quite a daring move. The body creases look crisp, the front sporty yet imposing and the proportions are shaping up nicely. :usa7uh:

Oh my look at that rear-wheel arch!

M

You like or no like? :D

As monster pointed out a couple of pages back, the wheel arches will resemble the ones on the ODC. I'm just surprised they didn't make them more pronounced like S-Class. I wonder why. I guess they didn't want all that criticism they got when the S-Class debuted.

I think the rear wheelarch will be something similar to the Ocean drive concept.

Judging from the photos so far, the rear wheelarch lines will be higher and more pronounced in the new E-class than the ODC. For the E-class, the line is on the same level as the top of the tail lights, but for the ODC the line is near the bottom of the rear lights.

the back wheel arch is the way to go, very good move by mercedes benz. so far i really like it

After seeing this I'm thinking it will have dual head lights insted of single ones. :eusa_thin The shape doesn't look right for a single unit.

It looks indeed like it will have dual foglights.
But what about these kind of foglights shown in the photo below?
I pointed out some while ago in my post concerning whether it could be LED's like the GLK-concept and the Audi S6.
But it didn't raised any discussion concerning that matter as I had hoped for. :t-hands:

Further more my guess concerning the two different grilles of the new E-class.
The E-class Avantgarde/sport versions always had more bars on the grill than the Elegance/luxery versions until now. I believe that this might change to the other way around.
The the Elegance version of the E-class will get 4 (thinner) bars on the grill and the Avantgarde version will get lesser bars, just 3 (thicker) bars.
Reason for this guess is that the B-class Avantgarde/sport version had less bars on the grille than the Elegance/luxery version but the bars were thicker and more agressive, that also goes for the current C-class. The same goes for the AMG versions versus the non-AMG version of the CLS, and also the CL for that matter.

And also the E-class Avantgarde came standard with xenon headlights, the Elegance didn't. At least not in Europe as far as I can recall.
If those foglights are indeed LED's, I believe it suits the Avantgarde/sport version better than the Elegance/luxery version since Avantgarde/sport is and was always more extravagant in terms of design than Elegance/luxery.
Elegance/luxery was more classy and understated and while the Avantgarde was more sporty and shouting/extravagant.
Other option may be is that the LED package is an option that comes standard along with xenon lights, like the LED's on the Audi's.
But still, not sure whether the foglights will be LED but I guess and hope it will be.

Very good thinking:usa7uh:
Taking a second look at the spyshots I have discovered that all the Avantgarde versions which feature 3 bars in the grill, have a horizontal strip in the bumper instead of dual fog lights like the elegance version. So there is indeed a great chance that MB will differentiate the trims even more using different styled fog lights!!!!:eyebulge6:eyebulge6:eyebulge6:eyebulge6

Elegance

Avantgare/Sport

MB used to differenitate the Elegence and Avantgard versiosn with different front bumper and frong grill, but after the facelift version of the W211, both versions share the same front bumper design, but with different fog light trims. It seems this new generation of E-class will continue on this trend.

As for the LED fog lights, they might come with the Xenon lights package. Noice the 1st photo of the car doesn't have xenon lights, and it lacks the headlamp washers on the car. I am a bit disappointed with MB if the new E doesn't have xenon as standard. The technology isn't new, and at this day and age, cars like the E-class should have this useful options as standard and not charge $$$$ for them.

Also note the new E will have the night vision option.

I agree with Alwing and Luw for the grilles and different fogs.
Howevre, I still hope no E-Class will have these double fogs. I can't see anything that could justify it. If they're not able to fit the daytime lights in two different and equally good-looking manners, then don't differentiate the fogs at all and give the LED strip to all E-Class. (if it really is a LED strip. I think it could be a boomerang-like strip following the lines of the air-intake, like all Benz PS once had. On the other hand, a single strip like the GLK concept seems more likely to happen).

I mean, double fogs, what the hell?:t-hands: :t-banghea

Having seen E-class chops with LED fog lights over a year ago and the GLK concept with LED fog lights, it's safe to say that there some reality to it.

I think what we`re seeing from these test cars should be taken with a grain of salt.
It is my theory that these test cars are in fact, production cars under testing.

Most of the Mercedes concept design elements never make it production.
Any MB fan should know that.
