says someone who knows a whole lot about VWAG products. already confirmed by VW execs.

That's right, I forgot you worked at VW.

So if they don't do the R, what other models will we see in the future?

LOL, pathetic. Both acting as if I was stating it as a fact.
Ok, so it is going to happen. But only someone completely out of his mind will buy it.

VW Beetle R...LMAO!!!!!!

^^^I know it's wrong to laugh at a kid with obesity that's largely based on on some genetic issue. But if that kid is doing "The Robot," then all bets are off.

Regarding the Beetle, it's not nearly as girly or cartoonish as the previous gen, but I'd rather get a Mini if I really valued nouveau-retro in my automotive purchases.

BTW, will the Beetle R get AWD like the Golf R?

They have been using the Turbo designation since the reincarnation 10 years ago, i owned one. It had the turbo logo on the back. Its just what car makers do, its not something new. And it doesnt matter what chasis is underneath, its how its managed that counts. You could say the same for the TT, and look at how stellar the TT RS has been, based on a golf chassis. So your argumentative stance can be easily dismissed.

Don't forget the 997 GT3 RS-esque details on the sides of the car. I'm not frowning on them at all given that the Beetle and 911 are related. I haven't seen the car in the metal but with the trend of hatches trying to look more like coupes the new Beetle is more of a 911 Plus than a imitator. As long as it won't be mistaken for a German PT Cruiser it could achieve some redemption.

I hate little bubbly cars like this, but I really really think I might like the new Beetle.

It finally carries the tradition of the Classic Beetle, and does it righteously. As a fun/toy car on the side, if I wanted something like that, I'd totally get one.

It's like the Mini, no matter how much they try to man it up the public perception will be that it's a woman's car.

P.S.
That being said this time round it's a lot more manly but I still wouldn't be catch dead in it.

Nope, Mini definitely not. Mini is a car for every gender. Beetle is for girls and men that, ahum, behave like girls.

Tell that to my son, I've offered him a Mini as his first car but he won't be seen dead in it. lol

Where I'm at Mini isn't really a girls car, but unisex. The problem where I live is that it is the car of choice, and the Fiat500 now too, for the douchebag Hipster population here. Ugh...

VW's head of marketing in the US are very stupid people. While trying to establish the new Beetle as a uni-sex or masculine car, promoting it through Oprah and a Britney Spear's music video is pure genocide of all units in the pipeline for production. It's marketing ideas like these that reinforce the opinions people already hold of the Beetle.

The new Beetle is better IMO than the previous one, but I wouldn't drive it, even the R. It just doesn't fit a serious man in our generation.

^So we can assume that any man driving a Beetle has a sense of humour. :D

No, that man would be driving a Fiat 500 Abarth. Interestingly the Fiat 500 is cute as a raspberry but the Abarth version is as manly as any normal small car.

Yes, in Rome (Italy) many business men in suits drive Abarth 500. Small, fast, and not shabby when parked beside a Ferrari.

Exactly. It doesn't. VW did the smart thing of borrowing some 911 heritage from Porsche and lending it to the Beetle, but it's all faux racing stickers etc. I'm surprising VW haven't run any ads focused on performance or racing. It would help make a strong case that the car isn't wearing a skirt.
