New Beetle [Report] Dead: Volkswagen Beetle

I always thought of the modern Beetle as a one trick pony, by which I mean that it was a temporary exercise by VW to appeal to its old customers through reliving the nostalgia of the original one which they used to drive in their youth.

I'm not the biggest fan of retro design revivng. The Porsche 911 is still in production since 1964, so I think it's excused, but like the new age muscle cars, the current retro rehash of the originals doesn't seem to show innovation and looking forward. The recent Mustang and the Camaro, along with the Challenger were presented during the 2000s when the big 3 of the US were struggling to maintain their declined market share, so they tried to appeal to the older generation through remembering the "good old days" in some sort rather than trying to look forward without forgetting the heritage completely.

I prefer the 90s versions of the Camaro and the Mustang (in concept rather than execution) compared to the current ones.

In my humble opinion, this somehow applies for the Beetle as well. The car was supposed to be a nod to the past of the VW and a gift to the long time fans for a while and that's it. One day, the car will reach the point where it loses its appeal and becomes redundant. I believe that the new Beetle reached that point at least 10 years ago or even more...

Mini brand is following the 911 route where the concept has been in production almost continuously nad trying to build multiple offerings on the original concept which is working for them, but I wonder for how long this concept will be able to survive...

Seeking a future through rear view mirrors is not a very good recipe for sustainability. This not only applies to automobiles.
