hahahahah, I'd say Maserati do a better job than Mercedes but as good as JLR, Bentley or Rolls Royce, no.

This article suggests an estate and SUV may be in the pipeline? :)

Mercedes-Benz coy on further S-Class variants

Three derivatives down and three to go for the Merc's new S-Class, but what are they?

Mercedes-Benz officials are trying to divert speculation away from what the next three derivatives of their new S-Class will be.

Executives at this week’s global S-Class Coupe launch admitted that three more S-Class-based cars were in the development pipeline, but turned coy when pressed on what models they might be.

“There will be six models from the S-Class and we have launched three of them,” S-Class Chief Engineer Dr Hermann Storp said.

“There are the two S-Class limousines (a standard and long-wheelbase) and now the S-Class Coupe.

“That means there are three more to come. You can speculate all you like about the other three, but we would not correct you if you assume there would be an estate and an SUV.”

Except sources at Mercedes-Benz confirmed there would not be an wagon and there would almost certainly not be an SUV, which Dr Storp suggested might come in the shape of a soft-roader in the style of the Audi A6 Allroad or, indeed, the Benz GLA.

Instead, the sources insisted, there would absolutely be a convertible version of the S-Class Coupe, which will wait until late in 2015 to carry the S-Class Cabriolet nameplate.

There will also be an extra-long-wheelbase limousine, which will draw its inspiration from the previous S-Class Pullman (pictured), favoured by dictators and military strongmen around the world in the 1970s and 1980s.

There is speculation this may take the form of a three-row limousine, though sources suggest it’s more likely that seating arrangements will be relatively liberal, like in the Viano van.

Our source went on to insist the seating options would include a conventional front row, a centre row of rear-facing captain’s chairs and forward-facing rear captain’s chairs.

Mercedes-Benz hasn't said anything about a four-door S-Class Coupe, but this hasn't stopped Theophilus Chin to render such a model.

If there ever will be a four-door S-Class Coupe, the model will obviously be bigger than the CLS which is currently Mercedes-Benz's largest four-door coupe. The artist came up with the "SSC" moniker as a homage to the iconic SSK roadster built between 1928 and 1932.

The production version of the two-door S-Class Coupe Concept will be out sometime next year and will be followed by a convertible. The S-Class range will be further expanded with the S65 AMG sedan, an extra-long wheelbase version of the sedan and the Maybach-replacing Pullman version. We are also expecting AMG versions of the coupe and convertible to create the largest S-Class family ever.

Mercedes confirms three new S-Class variants, AMG GT production in a few weeks

Company to invest 1.5 billion euros into the Sindelfingen plant

Mercedes has announced plans to invest €1.5 ($2 / £1.18) billion into their Sindelfingen plant by 2020.

The investment will be used to modernize the plant and gear up for production of a "new vehicle." The company was coy on specifics but the plant already builds the short- and long-wheelbase S-Class sedanand the S-Class Coupe. The plant will also build three additional S-Class models which are presumably the Maybach, Pullman andCabrio variants.

The head of the Sindelfingen plant, Dr. Willi Reiss, also confirmed the money will be used to build a new paint shop and assembly hall for the next-generation E-Class.

The company also confirmed the plant will build the AMG GT and production is scheduled to begin in a "few weeks."

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman leaked in patent drawings

Armored version could cost 1.27M USD

Patent drawings depicting the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman have surfaced the web.

A couple of days ago Mercedes-Benz confirmed plans for three additional derivatives of the S-Class and one of them will be a Pullman variant sitting on top of the range. Seen here are patent drawings of the model dating back to February 2013 when they were registered in the United States Patent and Trademark Office but only now these have been published to the large audience.

As expected, the Pullman version looks like a much stretched S-Class and it will reportedly be 6.4 meters (252 inches) long. Brabus will be in charge of producing the specialty model which is believed to adopt a 2+2+2 seating arrangement with the four rear seats facing each other and will be separated from the front ones by a privacy divider.

An armored variant is also in the works and will weigh as much as 5,300 kg (11,684 lbs). Needless to say, it will also be the most expensive S-Class ever with an estimated starting price of 1.27M USD in armored guise.

The S-Class Pullman will likely be introduced in 2015 but before that Mercedes-Benz will unveil an extra-long wheelbase S-Class Maybach expected to make an appearance in November at the Guangzhou Motor Show. Around 2016 or so, an S-Class Cabriolet will be launched to complete the largest S-Class family ever.

It seems like the cloud is moving and things are getting brighter. Recently when I interacted with a senior board member of Mercedes Benz India, he stated that 'in this present situation were Daimler AG is stabilizing in respect of profitability and valuation, it is not fiscally viable to introduce a completely new variant like the W100 600. More over the present S-Class is much more advanced than the competition in almost all respect and can even beat the next segment, hence a longer & featured up variant is good enough. Where as during 60s the W100 was way advanced than its own siblings like W111 & W108 and competition; that was the highlight and major selling point then for the 600 Pullman other than its entirely different body style.'

Any how it's his version about the 222 based Pullman, but I personally feel a different body styling would have made it an icon.

It just looks like an S Class someoen took to a limo company who grafted in a section and made the doors longer, the sure isn't a RR Phantom, sure it's probably mopre advanced with more bells and whistles, but the owners will be sitting in the back not driving it, this is where RR Phantom is better it's a much taller vehicle with massive headroom, something this can't offer.

I am a little disappointed to see just a S-class with extra length between the doors, if they can change the front grill and lights to make it a little more different would help it to look more exclusive.
