R-Class New R-class based on Audi Avantissimo?

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class (W251) is a mid-size luxury MPV introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2005 for the 2006 model year. The R-Class shared its platform with the M-Class (W164) and GL-Class (X164) and was available in two wheelbase lengths: standard 2,980 mm (117.3 in) and long 3,215 mm (126.6 in).
Latest speculation: This might be the Mercedes-Benz Sport Cruiser, an R-Class successor? :)

  • Based on the LWB C-Class (in China designated with L) which has the internal code V205
  • Probably a 5 seater, with no optional third row
  • might offer optional second row bucket seating to accomodate 3 adults w/o shoulders rubbing
  • Start of production as early as 2015, about 6 months after the R-Class production ends
  • The above render needs work, especially in the area of grille and headlight integration.

I could go one of those. The R Class is a great family hauler, just far to expensive, I guess that was partly due to basing it on the ML platform, if based on the C Class it should be considerably cheaper.

Could be based on the E-Class

The Mercedes R-Class was a resounding failure but the company is reporting developing a reimagined model.

Tentatively dubbed the Sport Cruiser, the model will reportedly combine the best attributes of a station wagon, van and coupe. That's an odd pairing but the Sport Cruiser will reportedly borrow styling cues from the B- and E-Class as well as the CLS Shooting Brake. The model is also expected to use conventional doors to escape the minivan stigma.

The cabin will be highly flexible and offer seating for up to seven people. It is slated to have a panorama glass roof, a rear seat climate control system and a variety of assistance systems.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but speculation suggests there could be a 2.9-liter V6 diesel, a 3.0-liter V6 petrol and a 4.0-liter V8 petrol. There could also be three hybrid variants that use 2.0- and 3.0-liter petrol engines.
The model will reportedly be based on the E-Class and measure five meters (196 inches) long with a wheelbase that spans roughly three meters (118 inches).

The Sport Cruiser could be launched about a year after the redesigned E-Class, so expect it to go on sale by the end of 2017.
