The Mercedes-Benz Vito/V-Class/Viano/EQV is a mid-sized light commercial vehicle (LCV) produced by Mercedes-Benz, available as a panel van, chassis cab, or multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), carrying cargo or up to eight passengers. Mercedes Spied Testing New Vito, the 2015 V-Class’ Working Brother

Now that Mercedes-Benz has upped the MPV ante with the 2015 V-Class, the German carrmaker’s engineers are out testing its blue collar brother, the Vito and we have the first spyshots of the light commercial vehicle.

Just like the Viano went on to become the V-Class, we may see a designation change for the Vito, but it’s too early to tell. Either way, we are going to see a working revolution.

Mercedes is the largest commercial vehicle maker in the world and, knowing they had to defend this reputation, the Germas dialed things up to 11 with the 2015 V-Class. They basically wanted to show what happens when a van receives lessons from an S-Class. After all, Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle division is currently helmed by former AMG CEO Volker Mornhinweg.

Of course, while the V-Class comes with two equipment lines, each with its own Interior Design language, the Vito will use a more basic approach, but the idea is that the all-important comprehensive base will be the same. If enough of the V-Class’ interior features will make it into the Vito, this will be a car that can convince you to quit your job and become a courier.

The new Vito should follow the V-Class’ lead in terms of platform options. The latter allows you to choose between two wheelbase versions, as well as three body lengths, ranging from 4985 mm (192.7 in) to 5370 mm (211.4 in).

The V-Class engine range is still in the launch phase, which means it currently only includes three four-cylinder petrol units. It all starts with the V200 CDI, which delivers 136 hp and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque. This is followed by the V 220 CDI, producing 163 hp and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft). As for the V 250 BlueTec, this keeps the previous two models’ 2,143 cc displacement, but comes with a twin-turbo setup, which means it produces 190 hp and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft).

We’ll take a moment to remind you that Volkswagen is currently also working to complete the development of the V-Class / Vito’s competitor, the T6 Transporter.

2015 Mercedes Vito teased, debuts on July 28th
Will be heavily influenced by the V-Class

Mercedes has released the first teaser images of the 2015 Vito, ahead of its debut on July 28th.

Details are limited but the pictures reveal the model will have a prominent grille and vertical taillights. We can also see a relatively plain interior with a multi-function steering wheel and minimalist controls.

Mercedes says the model is "poised to set [new] standards in its segment" and will feature a variety of "product innovations in the areas of economy, safety, quality and diversity of variants." Speaking of the latter, the company confirmed plans for Mixto and panel van variants as well as a passenger-friendly Vito Tourer that will be offered with three equipment packages.

Engine options are expected to carryover from the V-Class so expect choices to include:
  • A 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine with 136 PS (100 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque
  • A 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine with 163 PS (120 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque
  • A 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine with 190 PS (140 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque

The new Vito was just introduced in Berlin, comprising the three models Vito Tourer, Vito Mixto and the Vito Panel Van. Three lengths are offered, with two wheelbases, and the trim levels Base, Pro and Select. Rear wheel drive, 4MATIC and FWD can be ordered and combined with five different powerplants, starting at EU18,000. In contrast to some rumors, the interior follows the Sprinter, and not the V-Class.

Daimler also confirmed the new Vito will be introduced in the Americas, North America as well as Latin America. :)

Will they count it as a passenger two-seater coupe in their global sales report? :)

PS: I like it A LOT! I'm an MB Vans fan btw :)

Of course. BTW, the dog of Argentina president Cristina Kirchner is named "Vito", Dieter Zetsche said. May count for a few more sales, maybe? :)

Not to bad ...Huge upgrade on previous one..Interior could have been a nit fresher or rather new parts.

Another rather interesting thing, the drive systems. Why was front wheel drive added? During the live presentation in Berlin and subsequent expert talk two major explanations crystallized. One is the lower cost, and total cost of ownership is important in this segment. The other was the weight advantage of around 120 kg which would then increase the load carrying capacity by a similar amount. A plumber, it was said, could thus load an additional washer and dryer, a gardener seven more bags of potting soil and a baker another 1500 (don't remember the exact number) Berliner Ballen. :)

Two absolute different dashboards: Vito vs. V-Class

Yes I also noticed that but I kinda like the look of the Vito dash as well it has tough rugged appearance and suits it's role of utility load lugger or cheaper people mover just like the V-class dash is showing its nod towards luxury and car like abilities and comfort.

I like the look of the front, the black/grey bumper actually suit the car/van and looks good rugged

^ Yes, the V-Class is RWD and optionally AWD probably in the V 250 BlueTEC with a 45:55 front:rear split. Available in three lengths and two wheelbases, starting at EU42,900 for the entry level V 200 CDI. The 4MATIC versions have not been released yet, though. :)

The Vito also offers RWD and AWD, but in addition with the entry level 1.6 liter engines FWD. Those entry level FWD versions start under EU18,000 net. Available as Panel Van, Mixto or the Tourer shown below, and seats up to 9.

When somebody is looking for a van with the V-Class styling but not need the luxury details of it the Vito is the perfect car.
