Either it's the car companies that prevent them for doing it or they are afraid to crash the cars and can't afford the insurance costs.

I know Ferrari is not allowing any testing of the LaFerrari (much heavier than claimed) and McLaren is acting similarly (no Top Gear head to head with the 918, possibly because it's also slower on track than claimed). The only one that has been tested extensively is the 918. One reason why I respect the car and Porsche so much. Not claimed laptimes or numbers, just objectively measured data by independent magazines.
