Love the graphics. Doesn't look like it is from a 90s arcade video game as in a certain competitor. :bag:

Agreed, and little things like this make it only better:

When an upcoming navigation maneuver is well off in the distance, a small indication of what it will be appears in the gauge display. As it gets closer, a detailed overview of the maneuver and what lane should be used fills the right display.

If dash looks like from video games then this is it:

Fine, if you really want to open that can of worms...

A video game like interface? sure, but a modern one, even a futuristic one, one that sticks to modern UI and typographic guidelines. Not one that puts white font on a white background. I have come across a lot of UI designers in my profession, not even the amateur ones do something that stupid.

And who the heck uses text shadows these days? Or italic fonts everywhere? Those are big usability fubars (Italic font is used to emphasis something or highlight change, if every damn thing is italicized, it defeats the purpose).

I know this will rub a lot of fans the wrong way, but the UI design of the S class dash is really shitty as far as modern UI/UX design guidelines go. Maybe that is what they were intentionally going for, for some odd reason - old clientele presumably. But intentional or not, doesn't change the fact.

what i dont like about the that speedo graphics that they are round and the glossy border is rectangular. they could have made the glossy hardplastic maybe a concave style

I like absolutely nothing from what I have seen of the W222 graphics. Very simple in a bad way, with ugly fonts to boot.

A very old can of worms, btw, if you're starting about the graphics of a car about to be replaced.

Not impressed with any of these dash UIs. They waste a lot of space bowing to conventional analogue design as opposed to aiming for better ways to display pertinent information for the driver.

I still prefer analogue dials. They feel sharper and in a world where everything is electronic, manual/ analogue tends to become luxury.

IMHO, both has it place and I like them both when designed well. But if you are going to go digital, use it's advantages instead of being stuck in the past. The new Audi TT dash is an awesome example of that. Where as in S class, you find them using the precious screen real estate to draw cheap fake chrome dials... serious WTF <insert face palm pic>!

In terms of digital configurable gauges, I did like the W222's. But when you look at BMW's and Audi's (and Lamborghini's), theirs is a definite step-up. M-B's looks like a small flat-screen monitor that's placed behind the steering wheel. Also Land Rover/Jags are pretty abysmal compared to BMW and Audi. I still love the LFA's gauges.

BTW, I think this thread's a great idea, especially with how quickly things change when conveying info to the driver.

Talking about dash UI, we can't talk about Audi virtual cockpit without pictures.

The placement of dials, levels and map changes according to driver's focus, fully utilizing the large display.

Just as important as the information displayed is how you interact and control with the system. This is far from a complete solution but there are some great ideas in this.

Yep, and to me it looks like a hard to read mess.

I also HUGELY dislike it when the actual dials are that far apart with all that info in the middle between it.

Good thinking, but not there yet.

The point of large LCD screens is to show the driver a wealth of information, not create additional problems of managing the various functions. I find an I-drive type of control by far the most intuitive and ergonomic system.
