...as far back as you can remember. :D

These types of threads are pretty popular on other forums. I decided it was time GCF needed one too!

I was born 7 years after my parents got married. During that time, they lived mostly in Asia and hence got to drive some rather fascinating cars. I have some pictures of the rides they had.

The country in parenthesis shows in which country the car was owned. ;)

1954 Fiat Topolino (Germany)
1960s Volkswagen Käfer (Germany)
1960s DKW 1000S (Germany)
1960s Ford 15M (Germany)
1960s BMW 700 (Germany)
1950s Chevrolet Bel Air (My mother's father worked for GM. All the GM products in my family were his company cars.)
1967 Pontiac Parisienne (Philippines)
1970s Holden (LHD for the Philippines)
1970s Toyota Crown Estate (Guam)
1970s Ford Granada (Hong Kong)
1980s Ford Telstar (Philippines)
1985 Mercedes-Benz 300SE (Germany)
1979 Mitsubishi Galant-Sigma 1.6 (Philippines)
1989 Mercedes-Benz 500SL (Germany)
1989 Mitsubishi Galant Super Saloon 1.6 (Philippines)
1998 Nissan Cefiro Elite 2.0 VQ V6 (Philippines)
2002 Mercedes-Benz E320 Avantgarde (Germany)

1960s or 1970s Audi 80 GLS (Germany)

1978 Datsun Skyline 2.8 A/T (Hong Kong)

1970s Ford Taunus (Philippines) (My folks owned two of these at one point. This red one and a white version.)

1992 Mitsubishi Galant GTI 2.0 DOHC 16V (Philippines)

1996 Mitsubishi Pajero 2500 Intercooler Turbo (Philippines)

WOAH! What a history...

Mine is less glamorous. ;)

Patchy info I have, dad can't remember anymore... :eusa_doh:

Morris Mini (Grandpa's car)
Toyota Cressida
Datsun (unknown)
Opel (unknown)
Volvo 240
Volvo 244
Mercedes W126 280S
Mercedes W126 280SEL
Mercedes W140 S320
Mercedes W220 S280
Honda Civic Si
BMW E46 320i
VW Phaeton
Honda Jazz
Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT

Mercedes W126 S280

280S ;)

Pre-1993 Mercedes' all had the letters after the number. :usa7uh:

Pretty cool list you got there, James. I always liked the Toyota Cressida (true spelling I believe). I'm not a fan of Toyota, but IMO their cars in the 1970s and 1980s had style, especially the JDM models they never exported. When I lived in the Philippines, the Toyota Cressida was plentiful on that island. Nice-looking car.

EDIT: These are the Cressida's we got in the Philippines. I like the style!

Ah, thanks Wimmer. My knowledge of old cars is pretty poor, pardon me. ;)

It's a pity I never got to really see the Cressida, it sounds like one good car. Looks like my age is working against me. ;)

Great Thread...nevertheless, also my dad can't remember anymore... :D

Renault R4 (green) :D
---
Ford Escort (a red one)
Ford Escort (a black and fast one)
--
VW Passat Variant 16V (sold it 2 Years later with more then 250.000 km on it!!!) :D
--
Golf 3 GTI, VW Jetta (with 4 speed automatic)
--
1999 Golf 4 GTI (my dad had a lot of problems with it...during an all-out braking at 220km/h, the seat lost his contact to the rail :( - Mercifully the seatbealts worked fine and nothing bad happened - we sold the car after 8 months!! )
--
1998 Renault Scenic 2.0 (It is still our family car...130.000 km - no problems)
--
2000 SLK 320 (sold it in December 2005 with 175.000 km)

1989 Volkswagen Passat
1990 Peugeot 605
1990 Audi 100
2000 Volvo S80
2005 Subaru Outback
2005 Volkswagen Polo

Here's a list and i'll try to remember as much as I can.

Now you can see why I have a history with Japanese vehicles ;)

1978 - Toyota Celica (silver)
1982 - Toyota Supra (blue)
1988 - Toyota Supra (red)
1988 - Toyota MR2 Supercharged (white)
1991 - Toyota Cressida (silver)

1998 - Lexus GS400 (silver)
2000 - Honda S2000 (Silverstone Metallic)
2000 - Honda Accord EX V6 (silver)

Lucky bastard. :D

That's one of the Toyota's I really like. That car had style IMO.:usa7uh:

It was an awesome vehicle, certaintly one of Toyota's better offerings, and at the time it was said to be a "Supra-saloon", which actually made sense. However in all honesty even the 1988 Supra did not have the connection the Cressida would allow, of all of the vehicles i've ever driven the Cressida was honestly the closest thing to the 540i. It had a touch of body roll, but the vehicle was extremely communicative and as a result it was a highly entertaining driver. Aside from that, the straight 6 (borrowed from the Supra) was built proof and powerful.

I love it :D

Damn, you're family owned a ton of Toyota's! :eek2:

Now you see why I like Toyota so much, I was brought up with them (born you could even say ;) )

I'll also mention my Uncle & Aunt's vehicles:

1997 - Jeep Cherokee (black)

Excluding brothers, cousins etc. since I can't keep up with what all they are driving - suffice it to say that currently my brothers car is a C class Mercedes and his son's car is a 3 series BMW. My cousins have also had the occasional BMW over the last 3.5 decades.

Grandfather (born in 1896 but only got his first car in his 40's) - all cars bought as new:

The two cars that I only have heard about were some 1940s model
Opel Olympia and Hillman

Cars that I knew:
1952 Mercedes-Benz 170Va
1962 Wartburg
1964 Wartburg

at that point lanes were introduced on the streets and he couldn't understand them so he had to stop driving at that point.

Father - all cars bought as new:
1960 Auto Union 1000S (Donau) (note to cawimmer: I noticed your family had the same car badged as DKW, in Finland the 1960 model was not badged as DKW but Auto Union, and called for some reason - a Donau)
1964 DKW F102
1970 Volvo 144
1976 Volvo 244
1984 Volvo (?)
1992 Ford Mondeo
1998 Ford Focus
2005 BMW X3

My own cars starting in 1974:

late 60's or 1970/1 Chevy Firenza (used)
1976 Valiant VIP (new)
?1960? Anglia (used)
1974 Alfa Romeo Alfasud (used)
1980 VW Golf (used)
1986 Buick Century (new)
1989 Buick Century (new)
1992 GMC Vandura2500 (new)
1989 Nissan Sentra (used)
2001 Mercedes E320 (new)
2003 Mercedes E320 (new)
1989 Porsche 911 Turbo RUF Conversion (used)

EDIT: Excluding the current cars, if I could bring back 3 cars from the past, 1 from my Grandfather, one from my father and one of my own, they would be:

MB 170Va
AU 1000S
Anglia

Wow, you guys have some really long lists!

Mine won't be long enough, since dad bought a car when he was already old enough...

Renault R4 (i can't remember when he bought it though...)
Citroen Ponny (it had the 2CV engine and it was built in Greece. Very cheap and crappy)
Alfa Romeo 33 (i don't remember the exact date it was bought, but it was completely destroyed after a crash in 1994. Two people killed, one serious hurt. Luckily not father/mother/sister in the car at that time)
1990 Renault Clio (it has a registration date of 19-12-1990. Now i still drive the car and it has 280.000 problemless kilometres)

After that, dad made some great investments so he prefered to spend his money on other thing other than cars. Only in 2002 he had enough money to spend on a >15000eur car.
1998 Renault Clio (II) (we needed a new car but strangely enough we cept the old one too)
2002 Renault Laguna. (it's black on black and it is still his daily drive)
2004 Volvo S60 (investments paid us a lot of money so here our first real car. He handed it to me after some months.)
2006 Volvo XC90 (dad recently got it and it's great!)

BTW, Christian, Can i ask what did you do in Philippinese?
:t-cheers:

Well I rarely ever post here, not sure why. I like to read the posts I guess more so than post. I should stop being so lazy.

Anyway, I thought this was a cool list.

I would have to do a bit of research as to what my grandparents drove. But I know that had some pretty cool American and Foreign cars for the time.

1970s MG Midget
1967 Mustang
1985 Chevrolet Blazer
1989 MB 300CE
1995 MB C280
1978 Porsche 911 SC Targa
1998 Chevrolet Tahoe
2001 Chevy Suburban
2004 Chevy Silverado 4-door
2004 Dodge Durango Hemi
2006 BMW 325i
2007 Porsche Boxter

Those are the ones that have been around for quite a while.

My father has been the one with the Mercedes. My step dad has been with the Porsches.

My dad for a while had a 220D circa 1969. Crazy car. I remember thinking it was so vintage.

Before my parents divorced my mom was the one that got to drive the Mercedes, while my dad drove the blazer for most of their marriage! hah.

That's my list.

The list of cars my immediate family has owned is not as impressive as some of you.

2002 Mercedes Benz C240 (my first car after I became a staff physician)
2004 Audi A4 Avant 1.8T Quattro (my wife's first car)
2005 Mercedes Benz C55 AMG (replaced my C240 after i wanted a bit more power :D )

:t-cheers:

That's tragic Giannis! Luckily nobody from your family got hurt... I never got into such serious accidents before.

I'd guess his parents were selling San Miguel beer. :D

Now you see why I like Toyota so much, I was brought up with them (born you could even say ;) )

Yep. Thank God you're an open-minded Toyota fan and not a fanboy though. Guys like you are rare to find. On C&D for example, the Toyota fans are all trolls. :t-cheers:

I lived there because my father worked for San Miguel Beer. He's a brewmaster / chemist by profession. I miss that country. The climate was awesome, there were no speed limits, the girls were hot...miss it. :(
