Man! ....Ceaucescu, Mobutu, Mao Tse-Tung, there are some real bastards on that list. Kim Jung Il owns two of them too.

These cars are so magnificent ......and still my favourite limousines.

:t-cheers:

1971 600 Landaulet ...owned by Leopold Sedar Senghor, President of the Senegal.

I don't know who this one belonged to.

This one is not one of the 59 factory-built Landaulets. It is a conversion, it started life as a standard hardtop Pullman. You can see the rear side windows are the normal Pullman ones rather than the Landaulet type.

One of the former Egyptian presidents, I think it was Gamal Abdel Nasser owned one - and it saved his life when dissenters tried attacking him with machine guns (his 600 was armored). Not sure if it was Gamal Abdel Nasser or someone else, but I know a former Egyptian president owned one of them.

I do know that the old South African goverment had a 600 Landaulet for the ceremonial opening of parliament. I have not seen any sign of it in the last12 years though! It would be very interesting to find out the fate of that car. It would have right hand drive and very low k's.It was black with tan interior if I remember correctly. Regards and thanks for all the info you have posted:t-cheers:

Yes, I saw Diedrichs being driven in it on Adderley Street in Cape Town once (I think in 1975).

This might be a follow-up vehicle for bodyguards and security personnel. The wide running boards and grab handles on limousines were popular for armoured American limousines in the 1970s. I think mounted grab handles first appeared in Lehmann-Peterson Lincoln limousines in the late-'60s. Then the limousines Hess & Eisenhardt built in the 1970s started to have the same exterior features.

There is a book written on the 600 itself, though I'm not sure whether it details all the owners of all the cars.

Mercedes Benz Grand 600 Restoration

This person in US also restores and specializes in repairing them.

There was also the M-100.org, but it seems that it is no longer online. They had a database of the 600 owners as well as the 6.9 and 6.3.

On page 1 the uppe foto of the 2 of sultan fo brunei's Landualets is NOT from the sultan of Brunei. The Sultan had two Landaulets, the first with a long top and the second with a short top, both black and RHD. Those both Landaulets were 6 door Landaulets and had both six door handles at the outerside.
The upper shown landaulet is therefor Not a sultan-Brunei-landaulet, while only four doorhandles.

The Benzworld picture is the "second" wih shorttop.

The shown white Landaulet is not from Colombia but from Rusia.

Here is another one. His owner was Todor Zhivkov - Bulgarian communist leader. I dont have real pictures with him, but here is the video from one of the exibitions in Sofia:
