For the latest issue of AMS Dr. Klaus Dreager (BMW development chief) said BMW was considering a sub-compact city car.

A 3.75m long car, with 1.4L 4cyl engine, suitable for max 4 persons, FWD, based on MINI platform, extremely low fuel consumption, CO2 below 100g/km. May come at the earliest in 2010.

:t-hands:

Haven't heard anything like that before. My sources told me nothing about that. Yet.

Scott, do you have some info?

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

Seem very pointless considering that the Mini is cheaper than the 1er and is a perfect city car.

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

2010 ain't so far away, so i guess you'd be informed or you'd know something a little before, right? :D I don't trust this too much...

We'll see anyways.

:t-cheers:

Whoever thought of this should be shot in the head...and the rest his family should be stripped of the privilege of ever owning a BMW!!

FWD BMW...is NOT a BMW...and a "city" car does not match BMW!!

If they want to build a new car...build the CS concept...or the Z2...something like that at least!

Whoever from BMW is reading this...do NOT build a "city" car which is FWD!! DO NOT!

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

If Dr Draeger says 'BMW is considering the developement of a sub-compact city car based on the Mini platform'....this does not necessaryly mean that it will be branded BMW..It still can (and should be IMHO) be a Mini, maybe call it Micro Mini or something.
BMW really saved the Mini brand and resurrected its cult status, almost a lifestyle object like an iPod...(hey here is a good name : iMini.... ) I guess there is potential to expand this status to an even smaller car that would fit to the Mini brand.

The same car under the BMW brand runs the risk of diluting the BMW image.

But I guess if there is some truth in this story, the marketing people at BMW will have lots of meetings and discussions about these considerations (and others).... Now I have to run, registering that iMini name.....I will be rich ...:D ...cu later

Indeed. Perhaps Dr. Draeger is talking about MINI Diesel Hybrid. ;)

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

Now that's a GREAT relief! If BMW will brand this under Mini...it would be great!

Can you read this BMW people??? We DO NOT want a FWD BMW citycar!

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

I think the 1er is as low as the BMW brand can go, I hope this project will be branded as a mini, as that's the whole point of bmw having the mini brand!

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

Dr. Dreager also said BMW Group desperately needed such car(s) in their portfolio to reduce average fleet fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Meaning: to be able to produce cars like V12 7er, M3, M5, 335i etc they have to produce ultra-low-polluting cars as well - to better the average.

That's also why Porsche "merged" with VW into a holding. And that's why BMW are seeking a partner. And MB will also be in a position to do the same, after ditching Chrysler.

Proposed EU regulation for emitting greenhouse gas emissions is very strict, and carmakers like MB, BMW, Porsche are not in a very good position.

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

So that means that BMW is making an Audi A1 rival?:eusa_thin

I don't think so. According to Draeger this car will be a special model: with super-ultra-low CO2 emissions & fuel consumption. A car that aims to lower fleet average CO2 emissions & fuel consumption.

Yet it is not known whether the car will wear BMW (new Isetta???), MINI or some other special badge. Nor it is known what technology will be used in this car (eg what kind of power- & drivetrain).

A1 will be more of MINI rival: a sporty mini-hatch with quite powerful engines, and not some kind of Ultra Green City car.

But some rumors also say Audi are planning a new A2 model as well: and this model will be a Green City car. Something similar (but larger) to VW Micro Car, Smart Hybrid, and more similar to this BMW's new "Isetta".

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

It's kind of a mini mini CS-concept :eusa_thin

Every CGI made by AMS looks like shrunken CS concept. Being that new 5er, 3er, 7er, 6er, Z8, 1er, X3 ...

:t-crazy2::t-crazy2::t-crazy2:

Really how can a magazine like AMS have such bad CGI artists? :t-hands:
