What do you think is the best looking BMW ever made?

Funny when you think about it though; in all it's years, BMW has still yet to create that one definitive 'beautiful' car that all other premium luxury car manufacturers have had. Something like MB's 300SL Gullwing, or Audi's TT.

So a 507 or 328 MM don't fit your bill ?!

"Regular BMW"... laugh all you want, the E39 Touring. I thought it looked even better than the sedan

Coupe... I'm going to have to go with the E46 M3:

Now, you just can't force me to chose...
No sir !!!
All those cars are spectacular ...I particularly love the 507.

Look at this concept motorcycle from 1980.

Two BMW's really stand out for me: the 635CSi and the 3.0 CS.

Maybe one is on the horizon soon? Let's hope so.
Great choices there TS ..and both designed by Paul Bracq, who, as you probably already know, also designed cars for Mercedes-Benz in the 1960s.

About BMW still having yet to create a definitive 'beautuful' car, I think it is an interesting point. For me, BMWs have always been a very masculine brand with very masculine designs -- more handsome than beautiful ...with a few exceptions.

IMO, the E30 would have to be one of the greatest car designs of all time ....I struggle to find a single fault with it. Its proportions are perfect.

yeah man the previous 7er is off the hook.. it looks better than the new one in every damn way..i would rather have the old one

It also look better than previous generation S-class (W220). I rather have this than the S.

I like the new ones. Call me a fan boy but I prefer BMWs with hard sharp and crisp lines..bangleized if you will...

The 328 MM roadster is my favorite. There I said it.

The importance and influence of the 328 is on a far greater scale than that of the 507, for BMW and the automotive industry.

The beauty of the 328 MM roadster is accidental. It wasn't made to win beauty contests but races (a pure form follow function design), while the 507 was made with the purpose of seducing its customers.

Well I prefer those record breaking motocycles of the 1930s.

The E38 is a very nice looking car but it didn't make any where near the impression the E32 did when it debuted in 1986. The E32 made the Mercedes-Benz W126 look out-of-date.

I remember when this car was launched, it was undoubtedly the best car in the world at the time. It still looks great -- it makes me feel nostalgic ...and old :D

I also love the look of the E9 -- and notice it is pillarless ....for those who said BMW never make pillarless coupes.

The E31 is a magnificent car.

Great choices Rob, I wasn't sure if the best looking BMW was E38 or E32. The feeling what E32 gives to me is that it really is a drivers car. What a mean machine.

I almost posted the 328 in my first post ...but decided the 507 is just so good-looking -- and is the car the Z8 is based on.

Anyway, the 328 is a great little car.

328 Mille Miglia Roadster :t-cheers:

Great contributions to the thread, guys!:usa7uh:

After seeing some of the pics you guys have posted, I agree with many here that the E38 and E32 7 series were also very good looking for its time. Also, the 850Csi is another favourite of mine. I remember these cars very well, and I was very impressed with the 7 series in the late 1980's and 1990's. But somehow, they never made as big of an impression on me as the E39 5 series. I thought that particular 5 series was a perfect blend of the design cues from the late 1980's/early 1990's. Modern looking and just plain beautiful. In many ways, the E46 3 series took many design cues from the E39 5 series. The E46 coupe was pretty good looking too (especially the M3 version), but the E46 sedan just didn't flow as well (I think because of the rear three-quarters of the car).

Unfortunately, I'm not very knowledgeable about the vintage BMW models, but it's good to see some pics of some.

Wel,I would have to disagree on your opinion about BMW having to create definitive "beautiful" car..You see,to me,there are allready few models in BMW history that deserve that title like BMW 508,E30 line,E31...:)
It is only a matter of time when are we going to take them as ultimate "beautifull" as such..IMO ofcourse

Well that's nice, but this, the MM roadster I was talking about is IMO what makes even the 507 to be left a bit behind. Oh, and the 328 in its time and segment, wasn't just great, IT WAS THE BEST.

 It wasn't me who said BMW have never created a beautiful car, that was Top Secret. I just said that I would more often describe BMWs as handsome rather than beautiful ...because I think many of the best looking cars from BMW are very masculine designs -- whereas the Mercedes 300SL or Ferrari Dino are quite feminine designs.
