After some rather disturbing takes on how to advertise the joys of owning a car (yes you, Toyota) here's a simple, to-the-point and totally cool way of advertising what is, quintessentially, the ultimate peoples' car: the Volkswagen Golf.

The advert is highly appropriate for the German market - Depeche Mode has a considerable following in mainland Europe - and exemplifies the broad demographic that only a Golf could span.

The fact that Depeche Mode is my favourite band ever - I've even seen them live, twice - is no suggestion whatsoever of personal bias in this case. None, nada, zilch, nuthin'. :shifty:

Depeche Mode have done many good songs. Enjoy the silence is one of my favorite songs. I still remember the music video.
A friend of mine is huge DM fan :)

Enjoy the Silence sits at number 1 in my all-time Top 40 playlist. I remember when that song hit in 1990 - I'd received my call up to the army, we buckled a wheel on Pedro da Costa's old man's 2002 and that song just blew the world away. Ah fukkit - I'm getting old. Depeche Mode shaped the way I view and appreciate music till this day...

^ Your favourite is either Cliff Richard or Justin Bieber. (Can't be sure - ;) )

So you're putting me at either end of the age scale. LOL

To give you an idea of my real age, I'm a big fan of Queen, 10cc, ELO, Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel among others. ;) Oh and for a cringe worthy moment I also did like the BeeGees. :joyful:

Well you never know with the internet; events (not involving you) over the last few days have truly tested my faith in how honestly people represent themselves on the 'Net. You just can't tell anymore.
So, you're either in your 50's - as per previous profile info - and the father of the household, with too much time on his hands, or the son-of-the-father, with too much time on his hands too. ;)
Nothing personal - it just is what it is - either way all I can say is: old fart! ;) :D

This is what I have of DM on iTunes (all legitimately ripped from my CD collection by the way).

The rest sits in box sets, CD singles and - I kid you not - vinyl.

This "Das Auto" slogan must be very old. I remember it since the Golf IV or V, if I recall correctly, maybe older!

I'm a U2 fan first and foremost but I do like the Depeche Mode songs that I've heard. I do have "Never Let Me Down Again" almost on constant play in the gym. Definitely in my top ten of all time favourite songs.

Depeche Mode is the greatest band of all time.

Martin Gore just may be one of the best songwriters of our time, and definitely the most underrated one (Gahan gets all the glory as being the man who sings Gore's incredible words).

That commercial further exemplifies what I've always though about DM, and what I realized when watching a Documentary where Martin was strumming guitar chords in a Bluesy manner to what were essentially "Euro-Pop" DM beats; DM's songs are multi-faceted, you can play them Country, Bluesy, Poppy, Industrial, EDM-y, etc. When Martin writes a song, he writes it usually with a "rootsy" core, i.e on a guitar, Blues, intimate way, which is why the soul and authenticity of their music is so powerful, then the DM beat manufacturers work their magic and turn it into whatever they choose to.

Good to see them getting airplay, even if it's gotta be a commercial!

For me it's the same, K-A. Others will disagree as this is highly subjective but to mind Gore is the single most prolific songwriter of my time. That man's brain just dishes out melody after melody. Their influence - especially on the legitimisation of electronic music in rock-pop-alternative - cannot be disregarded.

What I find remarkable is that many of their material sounds fresh still in the 21st century.
