As no one added the Quattroporte to this poll, my pick is the 7 Series, but I'm biased, I have always liked the 7 Series, even the E65.

Huh? The poll shows how many members prefer each car overall. It's simple and uncomplicated. That's what it means and that is the added value, just like every other poll here (that you never complained about btw). I think I am observing a correlation between avatars and complaints about this poll :D

Thank you illuminati, i actually have no idea why i am keeping this avatar since i no longer own a bmw. Point is, i like the s class interior but not entirly since i still think the S8 is more refined and well sorted. However i am pretty sure s class feels more noble in temrs of materials. The 7er has no respect from me since i hate to see it replicated in lower models. So can i choose an obvious winner here ? No. And btw the points system is what you read in your favourite mags. Cants see a reason not to do the same here

@Levi68, you are the first person on this entire form to ever dislike one of my post. Since you didn't vote or provide any support for the LS , what is it about my post that you didn't like?

LOL. I'm sorry. I removed my rating. :)

The LS really looks good and is a nice car. It just is too old to have any chance in technology and everything else. That is why no vote from my side. If it were A4 vs. C Class vs. 3 Series vs. Q50 vs. IS, then the Lexus would get my vote.

That gif is too harsh for the poor Lexus. But thanks for. You'll soon see me use it. :D

this S class is beyond amazing, one of the best evolutions of the S class yet i wish the entire lineup could retain this sense of classynesss over sportyness but the lineup is great imo

Amen.

Thats why I see W222 vs Ghost and Flying Spur as it should be and is ment to be.
Not S vs 7 vs A8,
BMW, Audi, Porsche should keep to the sporty side IMO.

The A8 is the only other German car that can stand with the S-Class, and even then it is just on interior and engine/chassis, not the interior and technology on board. 7-Series looks like a WW2 tank now and the XJ while still pretty is just out classed. Lexus LS is a NMFF totally.

The S under 80% in this poll... c'mon guys it's not about taste it's all about the S-Class! :D
More votes for the S please, it's not enough!

Were you really expecting that in a car that costs at least $80k less than the cars you listed? The Flying Spur starts at $184,000 and the Ghost $256,000. I wasn't expecting the W222 to have as lavish of an interior as either of those, and I'm not sure why you would either.

1) Who said I did?
2) And was it I who started any thread or poll bringing Rolls-Royce or Bentley Motorcars into the W222's "life"?

What goes around, comes around.;)

So, it's final: The W222 is just the new S-Class and not in anything and nothing at all including price a RR or Bentley, as expected.
Just like a Hyundai Equus is to an S-Class an S-Class is to a RR and Bentley, nothing changed!

SO, STOP MAKING THE S-CLASS TO BE A ROLLS-ROYCE or BENTLEY COMPETITOR ALL OF THE SUDDEN WHICH IT IS NOT AND NEVER WAS TO BEGIN WITH. (All who had a hand in it, creating this sick dream);)

Back to the mere S-class then.(y)

The S-Class is most certainly a Rolls Ghost and Bentley Flying Spur competitor, hell the current one is in S65 AMG trim at the very least. You're the one making all these ridiculous proclamations about the 7-Series in every thread dealing with these cars because you know the 7er is now toast.

Phantom and Mulsanne are untouchable, Ghost and Flying Spur clearly are not. They aren't even true bespoke cars when you get right down to it. If the S550 is this luxurious then the S600 and S65 are certainly going to be at least in the realm of the entry-level Rolls and Bentleys. The only thing Mercedes doesn't have on those cars is the name to brand snobs.

Where?

I am the one that wants BMW to broaden the positioning of the Rolls-Royce brand, more to the point of a model range that is more price competitive with the S-class as such. And I want the 7 Series to be more Panamera than S-class, for never have I seen the S and 7 competing at the core of what they represent. Please, I ask politely, do not use false accusations against me.:) I was not talking about the BMW 7 Series, you brought it into this RR/BENTLEY/S-Class "debate". If the 7er bothers you, don't let it, she's a mere player in the field just like the A8, LS's, Pheaton's etc. The S-class is suppose to be the leader of the pack, I for one bloody expect nothing less!

And more to the point of the debate (which I in turn did not start to begin with) the S-class is not a Ghost/Flying Spur competitor. As much as I would like THE technical tour de force and iconic S-class to be just that, it's not.

And if you need further proof of that (except the door trim I lifted out) take up the rest of the conversation with @Serpens. He had a few facts he wanted to share with me, price being the main topic. Though whilst he's at it maybe he has a few other ones for you.;)

Reality is a cruel mistress and she can be such a nasty bitch.

Wrong, it most surely is a Ghost and Flying Spur competitor, because like I said before the only reason why you're saying they aren't is the name. Period.

What do the Ghost and Flying Spur do better than the S-Class now? I'm just dying to hear why YOU think the S isn't a competitor to the them, not someone else. Those more expensive cars barely have better interiors for nearly 100K more, and tech wise they are both outclassed.

Keep dreaming about the 7-Series being a Panamera competitor, that's going to be the real bitch of reality when it isn't made into one.

7-Series best bet is to switch to being a sports sedan because as a luxury sedan in this class, it has been run off the road.

The S-class is a BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Lexus LS, VW Pheaton etc. competitor and is definitely without any reasonable doubt the leader of it's class. And nobody would expect less, we all waited for the W222 with bated breath and HUGE expectations. If the W222 was not the car we see here, today, I would have shot Zetsche myself.;):D
I myself (repeating myself, again) would have like the W222 to be the German answer to the RR/Bentley offerings, though it's clear to me now that we will have to wait for the Pullman.

Oh indeed, it's a dream and I for one can certainly teach what I preach. It's a dream that will most likely NOT turn into reality, you are correct. I just see logic (IMO) in BMW AG taking the Rolls Royce brand to another level below the current baby Ghost and giving the BMW 7er a more BMW-like persona of being the sportiest Luxury sedan in its class. Will that happen, I suppose not, but give me that, my idea and dream had some sense to it. If BMW decides to do a sporty 8 ser, then at least I will be able to aspire to the luxury sports sedan I want. In the mean time if I had the money it would be a M6 GC or maybe a Panamera GTS. Still if I had the need for luxury and the money, it will be the Mulsanne. Each to his own.

And again I ask you why isn't the S-Class a competitor to the Ghost and FS? You aren't saying anything! Seriously, other than name you can't come up with a valid reason why it isn't.

And let me be clear, I'm talking about the Ghost and FS, not the untouchable Mulsanne and Phantom, both of which I have just sat in and they feel other worldly expensive, especially the Mully, both of those are clearly in another league.

It's opinionated;) IMO the S-class is for starters lacking the expected door trim. Designo will not fix that, thus has not got the expected bespoke trim options/programme, nor has it got lambs wool carpets nor is it hand build.
The finesse of the finer things in trim and color, choice and bespoke ness, the essence that makes the 'Flying B' and 'Spirit of Ecstasy' so unique and special etc. etc.
So in the end I am not and cannot be convinced the new W222 S-class is the RR/Bentley competitor I wish and hoped it could be. It's most certainly the class leader in it's respective class: S/A8/7er/LS/Pheaton;)

And I for one do not want and S-class and least of all a BMW 7er nor A8 etc. It's either what I really want, M6 GC, Panny GTS and more to the point a Aston Martin Rapide:love:

I like driving, so will not really waste my money (if I was in that league) on a luxury barge, still for now only the Mulsanne will do.

I hope this clears it, I can add no more. This is my view and heartfelt-in-my-soul and mind, opinion.

Naas.

So in other words I can slap some more wood and lambs wool rugs into an S-Class and have a Rolls or Bentley competitor? If that is all the separates the Bentley/Rolls from the S-Class that is downright pitiful. Trim and color choices can be made bespoke in any car of this class. Some superiority. Mercedes has a 1000 tech reasons why it is a better car than these entry level Rollers and Bentleys and furthermore those cars (Ghost and FS) aren't even bespoke as they're based on a far cheaper cars to start with, the Bentley on a VW no less. There goes that theory about the essence of this and that.

Extremely weak argument as to why the S isn't a competitor to the FS and Ghost, almost non-existent. Furthermore we've only seen the working man's S-Class variations so far, the V12 and AMG models are still to come.

In Your Opinion or in short IMO, will do just fine. As was my opinionated reply and how I see it. So the S-class is for me what it is just not for you, so no matter what I say or explain myself as clearly as I did, my argument will be and stay weak In Your Opinion, that is. Talk about fan boy-ism. Ah, but that is why I actually respect you, great(est) brand Mercedes-Benz, definitely! Most beautiful car on the planet? SLS (IMO), greatest technical showcase has always been the mighty S-class.
Still it's not a Rolls Royce nor a Bentley. Do I care? No! You do and if it floats your boat the W222 being a Ghost/FL Spur competitor, fine by me and it's your right to feel it does! (y)

Regardless of all else Lambs wool rugs and wood trim is a weak argument to anyone who isn't blinded by a RR or B on their radiator cap. Your argument basically makes my point about image is what those cars have over Mercedes and not much else, again at their entry level points. That's all I'm saying here, nothing more.

just tell me one good reason why i cant compare mercedes to RR and bentley ?? 100% you can't and can you tell witch car in this level of luxury ??
mercedes better then bentley and RR in (technology- safety -performance) also the brand and just look at the history of RR and bentley and you will know who is better mercedes better and still ... volkswagen and bmw they made everything to RR and bentley and if they didn't buy these companies you will know what will happen,, and the good thing in RR and bentley is exclusivity and the british they can't build good cars (like german) this true they are perfect in design and luxurious and materials and details but that doesn't mean they are good in performance and technology and safety and they will not be better then german for example you can't compare Porsche Panamera turbo to aston martin rapide porsche 100% better and maybe Someone like you believed that if the car expensive the other car is nothing or like Hyundai !! this your opinion and i respect that but excuse me this not true and don't forget the new S Class w222 is not in the same class for Bentley and RR but 100% better in (technology- safety -performance- design for me) and if you want compare mercedes with Bentley and RR wait for the extra long wheel and wait for the pullman BTW Maybach was much better then RR and Bentley ,, how about pullman !!! maybe you say that because BMW owns RR but i will tell you S-Class better then 7s and S-Class long will be better then ghost and pullman will be better then phantom BTW mercedes not Hyundai mercedes is first car in the world with thousands of innovation and patents and for (Presidents and VIP and royal families from all the world and celebrity cars) the name of the mercedes is bigger then bmw and in the same level of the RR and Bentley maybe more ,,mercedes paly with all (the super cars - trucks- sedan- suv - 4X4 - bus - motor sport - F1) no one can do that !! company have bus and trucks and super cars and cheap cars and expensive cars and still have this Big name !!

@lukeswiss We are moving forward, hope that we get a really "Mercedes-Benz as always" cutaway photo feast sometime!?

@Human

You sure a hell can compare the S class to the Lesser models from Bentley and RR.

Why? well lets see

1. History
2. Tech
3. Innovation.
4. Power
5. Design

MB has all of this to match or above RR and Bentley?

What is actually RR and Bentley, 2 brands that had a great history YEARS back, when Mercedes had an even better one?
2 brands that failed miserably while Mercedes soared?
And 2 brands that today are owned by the Germans, which would be thought as worse than self mutilation back in the heydays of the 2 brands?.

The only thing the RR and Bentley has over the S is the NAME, or actually not even the Name, its more of the perceived Prestige, and also exclusivity.

2 things that are WAY easier to achieve than the 5 stated above.
Make a car in limited numbers with a huge price, and there is your exclusivity.

Never mind that its on a ancient platform, and ancient tech, it will sell , cause the rich do not care, they just want to be different or say keep up with the (enter any blue blood high society family name).

So yes a 600 and 65 AMG can easily go up against the Conti or the Ghost.

The Mulsanne and Phantom is out of the S class reach.

for now;)

PS
And when it comes to trims and leathers, lol that is not the issue here.
You can go designo, you can even go to Brabus, and it will look like any RR and Bentley and then some;).
