3 Series (F30) [Official] The new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo.

The BMW F30 is the sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: F30 (sedan), F31 (wagon/,touring), F34 (fastback/gran turismo), and F35 (long-wheelbase). For this generation, coupé/convertible models were spun off to create the new BMW 4 Series. Predecessor: BMW E90. Successors: G20 3 Series, and G26 4 Series Gran Coupé (F34). Production: 2011–2018.
The more I view this car the more I'm strangely drawn to it. My opinion has changed greatly to the point I rated it's rear view, especially square on to be better than the A7 (not hard) but actually better than the 3 series saloon too. If they offer a 330d in xDrive form which is very likely now that the saloon and touring offer this option I could very easily see myself driving one of these as the raised seating position would make it easier to help my son into the car compared to a normal saloon/estate.

so what is the Cd*A figure of this thing? Also I don't quite understand how the vents behind the front wheels can help to create an air 'curtain' around it. Will BMW release any CFD diagrams to show us how the air flow is being managed around the car?

Tell me that this isn't going to rock in dark colours.....

This would handle most of my wagon duties, and I'm no longer married to the sedan profile. I like, I like, what can I say. And there are few BMWs that I'm excited about, it's not a badge thing. I think I prefer it to the A5, which was my previous pinning in this category. I think the performance connotation that comes from "pipes" in the rear, just do not work on this car though. It would look best with a minimal muffler treatment. And someone needs to change the gills so that they follow curvature of the wheel arch, because as it is it just looks like an afterthought. I might have to start a business fabricating replacement panels.

F35 3er GT Cd*A = 0.28*2.31

I suspect that we shall soon be seeing photographs of less heavily disguised 4 series Gran Coupe mules. It will be interesting to see whether whether the 4 GC will be based on the elongated 3 GT underpinnings. In terms of dimensions, this would place the 4 GC in closer vicinity to Audis' A7. Also in terms of price versus the 6 GC.

And yes: the 3 GT is looking far more attractive than originally anticipated.

Hmph, seldom do I come across a car that polarises my views in such short and regular intervals. I like it, then I don't - 10 times a minute.

The boomerang vent is such an unnecessary embellishment. Money wasted in my opinion. The M-Sport version of this is an exercise in contradiction and totally at odds with what the supposed raison d'être is meant to be.

Good, good it will grow on you and you will like it as much as I do eventually....look into my eyes and say aha!:wideyed:

It's surprising that scaling it down ever so slightly from 5GT to 3GT has made a world of difference to the overall look and by the comments here the overall opinion of this style of BMW.

The only fly in the ointment I see is the projected price in relation to the 3 series saloon if Autoexpress has it's info correct, £2,900 is not a slight increase it's roughly 10% more. Standard kit will need to reflect this price difference in my opinion.

^ Well the car is quite a bit bigger compared to 3er sedan. 3er GT is almost 5er sedan size (like 5er GT is 7er size)

I appericate that but it's interior and almost all of it's hardware coming from the normal 3 series, this price hike puts it above the price of an equivalent X3 by the tune of almost £1300.

I really do like the car I just don't want to pay through the nose for it that's all.

Is it just me, or:

3er GT grille > 3er sedan/Touring grille?

I think it is just you. LOL

F34 and F30/31 have completely different front; bumpers, grille, headlights, wings. Maybe hood is the same.

I know you like the GT, becuase you should;):D But do you like it as much as I do Klier mate?

No I'm afraid I don't quite like it altogether my friend. The front is nice but the rest is just awkward, borderline ugly from certain angles. I'm opposite to most of you guys; I like the 5er GT for it's sheer greatness (literally) , but that concept doesn't grab me in a smaller package.
Still, I don't mind this car existing for the people who want one. There's always a 4er coupe, 4er GC or regular 3er sedan/touring for who wants something else....

Clearly I can see that myself ;) I think the grille of the F34 would look great on the F30 :D

Oh dear:unsure: Well I guess I just have the thing for BMW 'honchos', 5GT or 3GT both floats my boat.:)

Both you and Martin will come around eventually:D IRL could/might just change a few opinions and perspective...

EDIT: I wonder if BMW SA - Plant Rosslyn will be building the 3 GT locally and for export? SCOTT / EnI

Yeah, I don't hate it at all, and it's actually growing on me.
I'll hold final judgement until I see it myself in the flesh, which will be soon enough I guess...
