Porsche Macan

Porsche has released the first official sketch of its upcoming compact SUV and is calling it the ‘Macan’ - contrary to the speculation that it could be called the ‘Cajun’. The name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for ‘Tiger’. Porsche says that this name combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics – which are the core characteristics of the new off-road car.

From the design sketch, the Macan follows the familial design cues of the new Cayenne with the sleek wedge-shaped taillights and the endlessly similar Porsche front-end. The wheels on the concept are expectedly humongous in diameter, making the rest of the body look short and sleek. But the production version should look more proportionate. The coupe-ish roofline makes the Macan look like a car that will fit right in between the Panamera and the Cayenne.

The Macan will enter production in 2013 and will be the fifth model line in the Porsche portfolio. It will sit under the Cayenne SUV in the Porsche line-up and is expected to be built on the Audi Q5 platform. Given the success of the Cayenne in India, it is a given that the Macan will enter India too – with late 2013 or early 2014 being the possible period of launch.

“The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche”, said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG. “The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive

When should it be released? I bet we'll have the usual versions, Macan, Macan S, Macan Diesel and Macan Turbo. I wonder what the engines will be like but I think we'll see Audi petrol and diesel V6s. I like what I am seeing. I am sure it will end up being a better car than the Q5, the X3 and the Evoque, though the Evoque is very attractive.

PS: The car was never going to be called "Cajun". Both "Cajun" and "Pajun" are maybe just project names instead of internal codes that stand for "Cayenne Junior" and "Panamera Junior".

The sketch looks very elegant. Of course, always drop the elegance/sportiness of a sketch down several notches and then you'll have the actual product. :D

How proud i am as an Indonesian citizen that Porsche use a word from our language as a name to its new product. Go Macan! :eusa_clap
From the sketch, it seems like it's going to be a looker! It has all the good of Cayenne except those hideous rear lights. I hope the facelifted Cayenne will get this new rear lights.

Interesting ... The sketch is signed by Mitja Borkert, the same guy who designed the new Cayenne. :)
No wonder, it does look like Cayenne. At first, I thought they posted the Cayenne facelift sketch.

And hopefully lower, lighter, smaller and more sport oriented than it's larger brother. More Porsche like!

Looks way better than Cayenne or any other German suv (excluding X5 & G-class). An exciting yet sleek design. Looking forward to see the final product.

This may be my only way into the Porsche brand. Looking forward to this.
Hoping it retains the sleek sporty profile when it comes to production!
That sketch looks great.
Let's hope if it's the same designer that he improves on the weak areas of the Cayenne.

Looks promising! Bring it on...(U 2 BMW with the X4):t-cheers:

2013 is going to be a great year for us fans!

Expect the Macan to have the highest profit margin of any luxury car. It will likely be based on the new MQB platform that will underpin the Tiguan, Touran, Golf, Passat and Jetta. The size of the Macan will mimick the Tiguan but with a sleeker profile. It is essentially Porsche's 3-Series challenger. The reason why Porsche opted for an SUV is simple. People choose them over sedans, estates and even coupes as status symbols. Scraping off higher end 335i coupe, sedan and estate buyers the car has amazing prospects.

Hahaha, what a retarded name for a Porsche that will share a platform with VW Tiguan....lmao.....Macan.....

Design sketches look good, the concept is quite terrible. Another SUV from Porsche....

So it will be based on the Q3 (Tiguan) and not on the Q5 ? The engine will not be placed longitudinatlly but transversally ?

But the X4 is brilliant? You are too funny klier. Probably safe to assume that you still have plenty of BMW kool-aid left in the fridge!:eusa_doh:

This really gonna be an amazing car. I mean, sharing the bottom with the amazing Q5, and the interior parts with the Boxter... Woa... This can only be an super hit. Im looking forward to this car.

Plus, if it's gonna be anything near the looks of Cayenne, sign me up for one! I loooooove the new Cayenne! Pure sex!
