CLA [Official] Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupé (C117)

The Mercedes-Benz CLA is a series of luxury subcompact executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 2013. The first generation was a four-door sedan based on the platform of the W176 A-Class and W246 B-Class compact cars, marketed as a four-door coupé. In 2015, Mercedes-Benz expanded the CLA family to include a station wagon configuration which it markets as a Shooting Brake. As the V177 A-Class sedan took its place as the budget-conscious sedan, the second generation got longer and wider than the W205 C-Class.

Any thoughts?:)

all looks god but i pray that those door panels have some more details when officially released, they look they they've came straight out a Chevy sonic, besides the copy/paste interior everything looks great

Side lines don't look as jarring as I thought they would (at least in these ps'ed pics). This is going to sell like hot cakes no doubt.

Looks very youthful and sporty for a Benz, I like it. Is this front wheel drive?
Yes front wheel drive, then AWD for the AMG version. I will reserve my judgement until I see some real life photos, these press release pics are highly photo shopped.

Not sure yet, front end has a battering ram look lol. I can't wait to see the sales numbers in the U.S. for this thing.

Food for thought...

I think that in it's respective segment it's the correct car at the right time for the Mercedes-Benz Brand and for DAIMLER AG. It's innovative styling, extending the new and freshly styled A-class family is what the brand needs to become a player in the world of smaller cars.

Read the thread: BMW AG vs DAIMLER AG. This will justify my post here.

FWD? Does not matter, for BMW will in future not be "The Alternative" anymore. For my favourite brand said FU-All:finger: They will be going FWD also in this segment. Becuase believe you me the RWD 2 Series will most certainly be MUCH MORE expensive than the FWD segment of the future 1 Series, A-class and A3's of the world.

Lastly the Germans needs "a new take" on this segment for the Koreans needs to be kept at bay, especially in the Chinese market.

Naas.

It's the type of car I always needed and wanted - a small 4-door coupe.
But this Merc isn't exactly my cup of tea.
Hopefully the A3 Sedan and 2GC will both look better :)

Anyways, this car will be available in 4WD in both AMG and non-AMG versions.

Engine lineup will start with 4 engines, 3 petrol, and 1 diesel, namely: CLA180, CLA200, CLA250 and CLA220 CDI. Ofc, more engines will follow later, probably 180 CDI, 200 CDI and the AMG.

The lenght of the car is expected to be around 460cm. (about 2 cm more than the current C class).

Much better than I expected, but really this could have been any brand, it doesn't say Mercedes other than the star emblem....

Hate the interior. That screen really is a disaster.

Anybody else feeling "Meh.." when seeing this? It seems like they are trying too hard...
The younger people will find this attractive, especially for the non car enthusiasts. I know several people who has placed an order for the A-class because it is the cheapest Mercedes they can get.

Perhaps M-B will decide to implement a version of the CLAs' flank sculpturing on a future facelifted CLS. Jettisoning the current "Ponton" rear fender.That could turn out to be quite attractive.

LOL for the 'Lines Crew' :)))

@Offtopic

I said it once on the S-Class thread Part III, and I'll say it again: Those lines, IRL look nothing like in the picture. They are waaay accentuated in the picture. On the B-Class, they are noticeable just. On the A-Class, they look just right. I think that car would look boring without them. Whether that design will age well or not, only time will tell.
Personally, I think MB nowadays is in the same kind of Bangle-era that BMW was just a few years ago. IMHO, Bangle's BMWs were ahead of their time, and only now do we see how great design the Z4, or the E60 5 Series are. Even the E65 7 Series looks better after so many years. I think same will happen to current design of the A-Class and such.
And obviously, since MB is nowadays in design-transition, some cars had to be 'collateral damage' of it. The C, the SL, the GLK (who I think looks better now), and most recently, the E-Class.
In the end, I wouldn't blame Wagener just yet: head of design is more of a 'bridge' between designers and board of directors, than just a designer.
The only thing that bothers me is Zetche's obsession to become the No. 1 premium car maker in terms of sales. Sales speak nothing of luxury, and definitely nothing about exclusivity. They don't necessary speak of quality either (GM, Toyota). What's more, recently he initiated some stupid cost-saving campaign, and we all know how that ended in the second half on '90s. Every time company gives priority to investors instead of customers, profit suffers in the long term, and so does the company. MB should take a few clues from Apple, and to hell with the cost-cutting and investors. (Interestingly, BMW is, in part, family-owned business, and it does show when compared to Investment-fund-owned Daimler). MB should be run be engineers and designers, not by marketing or finance people. I'm sorry for this long post about offtopic, but these are just my 2 cents.

@Ontopic

The thing I do mind about this car, are its proportions. I never liked hatchbacks turned into sedans (or 4 door coupes for this matter), and judging by the pics, I won't like this one either. The other thing I don't like is its price. Even A-Class is overpriced, and this will be pricier than that. I would choose C-Class over both of these in a heart-beat.

Tasteless. The lines especially have reached a new Mercedes low. Now, instead of crashing into the Ponton fender like the CLS, it crashes into a random point in the rear doors shutline.... therefore you have so much busyness and cluster-f@rking going on around the doors, then after the door shutline, the rear quarter panel is naked.... what happened? Not enough coherency to connect the dots on design anymore?

We're surely gonna see it all over the streets though. Probably mostly by the stereotypically hot-headed "kid" with a chip on his shoulder who's been yearning for the M-B badge and now can attain it. I can smell the FWD burnouts already....
