X5 [Spyshots] Next generation BMW X5 (3rd gen) 2015?

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
The front 3/4 view at 00:32 looks very appealing. If the profile avoids looking like a stretched X3 ( though I fear it may not ) then this will be one handsome SUV

Yea, it shares the almost vestigial reverse Hofemeister kink on the A pillar with the X3. Let us hope at least the character line doesn't do the stupid plunge it does on X3.

Mind the X-family will get some common design features. Just like eg the GTs (with more pointy H's kink) - while eg X cars will get more squarish kink. And the "A-pillar kink" too ... which allows greater greenhouse, which is also a BMW design trademark.

Regarding X3-like profile ... the upright front + flatter hood is a consequence of EU-required pedestrian safety standards, which influences the design A LOT. Eg. the latest ML-class also get less rakish front than the previous ML.

And, no ... the character line won't have the X3-like kink in the front fender.

Also: the X5 design is much more muscular than the pics portray. The curves on side panels are hard to see in the pics. The photos make the vehicle look plain & flat, but it really isn't IRL.

The most iffy design feature on the next X5 are ... IMO ... the rearlights. The look similar to other BMW designs but the look a bit off on the X5 IMHO. Especially the graphics.

Overall ... the car look more upscale than the current X5, and a bit less sharp. Just like eg E60 vs F10.

The new X5 is just as muscular as the outgoing X5 if not more so, especially around the wheel arches which add more flare and a broadness to the car.
The photos do not do the actual car justice and the small wheels and additional camouflage does not help matters either.
Please have patience before writing it off.

One thing you will notice is that it becomes more sportier and dynamic in the outline , similar to the X3 and its more sportier transformation. Indication to suggest the X5 will no longer be the ceiling for the X-Line.

And the "A-pillar kink" too ... which allows greater greenhouse, which is also a BMW design trademark.

Oh????
That's the first time I hear this (makes sense, because it is not a BMW design trademark at all). BMW design isn't about big, wide open greenhouses.

Also, you talk about the car as if you have seen it yourself. And I am pretty sure you have not.

It looks like an XL X3 with the X5 front end mixed with the F30 3er and the rear of the 5er GT. Not feeling it.

Those rear wheel arches don't flare outwards as much as the current gen. Right now it looks like a 5 GT with a more angular side profile.

You mean huge as in long? That's because it'll probably have an optional third-row seating.

BTW, I hate X5's without roof railings. It just doesn't look right. They should be standard on all X5's. Plus they need bigger exhausts for the I6's. The V8's, especially the X6 50i has a beautiful large exhaust.

OMG! Love child of Beauty and the Beast. Spoiled for choice with the new offerings coming out of Munich.

My New Year's Resolution: Play the Euro-Millions Lotto, win and buy a fleet of BMW's from 2er, 3er GT, 4er, new M3 and X5! And my current X1 and X6M will be passed on to Martin, for he needs to start driving German cars:p:D

I must say that I don't like it from what I can see. I'd never thought of this. The X5 was everytime the most appealing SUV when released but with this I don't think it will be the same. It looks too big for an X5. The new Range Rover is the most beautiful SUV in this moment, at least for me.

I would not say the X3 has been toned down if anything it has been made more sportier and less utilarian than the E83.
Surprisingly some E83 customers have said that the F25 is more exclusive and fragile compared to the E83 and less inclined to go off road than the more utilarian E83. The upcoming SAV/MPV/Touring Hybrid - Family Activity Sports Tourer - The SAV twin to the Active Tourer brings back that utilarian feel with a more solid and rugged appearance.

The New X5 follows on from the X3 and provides a more athletic look especially the more dynamic sloping roofline and shallow rear windscreen, In full specification with full size wheels and without camouflage X5 is a stunning vehicle , photographs make the car flat but there is a broadness when seen in reality around the front and rear wheelarches.

The upcoming X4 and X6 which I have now seen retains that exclusive bullet-like Coupe shape , the front end and rear differ for greater variation for the sportier X models. All too aware that the X6 is now facing competition for the first time , the look is familar with greater emphasis on the details. The X4 is hoped to become a sales juggernaut as it will offer entry petrol and diesel models to appeal to customers who want more style than practicality in their SAV.

The next X1 is also looking great - It is less rounded than before and more upright , again sporting aesthetics appear in the profile and this time the interior space will be greater it is also based upon BMW's FWD architecture but with xDrive .
The X7 reminds you of the first generation X5 in profile , but as big as a Range Rover and just as luxurious as a 7er which it is partly based on the next generation 7er backbone (modular matrix) with technology from the forthcoming X5.
X7 will be more road-biased but accomodate the desire to venture off a beating track as they might say.
