Next generation 6 a true sportscar?

I hope the hoodline will be past also at the next 6.
For me this render is showing still to much recent 6.

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

There is some interesting sketches regarding this concept but be rest assured that the final car would not look like this. It is kind of bland and looks like a Renault.
Looking through my list of artists who have had internship at Munich , Creativity remains after they leave the studios and ideas flourish. I would like to think some ideas can be found in pass-the-time sketches like this.

Interesting discussion; my bet is that the changes will make the 6 a sportier GT.

No disrespect to forum members with better sources of information.

I merely think that the bean-counters will fight for conservative, evolutionary changes--and in massive companies, bean counters wield an important vote. Radical changes to existing models are not in German manufacturer's DNA. 6 has evolved to a cushier GT than some prefer, but I just don't see them abandoning the GT 6 for a true sports car 6.

Yes it will be a Sportier GT but they are considering an additional Coupe allowing the 6er to position itself as the middle Coupe. More of the render which we will see the continuation of higher placed and slimmer lights. A progression of what was showcased on the Vision ConnectedDrive.
The weight reduction by the way is accurate. One characteristic between Sedan and Coupe G models is that the sedans will have L-Shaped headlights whilst the Coupe's
Are upside down L-Shapes. The Z models follow the same idea.

@Scott: What do you think how large is the possibilty to see a ( more luxury ) Coupe above the 6-series as a counterpart to a more sportier 6?

There are several ideas on where to take the 6er visually and there is a lot of ideas being communicated in the design process. Some ideas are progressing ideas showcased within recent concepts. Some can be interpreted as the Vision Future Luxury turned into a smaller mid-sized Coupe but with a more dynamic roofline and shallow glasshouse which creates problems but offers other solutions for a Gran Coupe model.

The outline remains as sport-orientated as it can be rounded and very sleek incorporating some ideas from the recent 4er Coupe which its stretched roofline puts the C-pillar just behind the rear wheels and allows a short rear overhang. Some suggest it looks as dynamic as an Aston Martin.

Front kidney Grilles could be upturned as a reverse from standard BMWs. Or as some ideas suggest shaping the grilles to be octagonal like the wings of Darth Vader's TIE-Fighter. (Hence this weeks Star Wars quotes and the fact I watched all of The Clone Wars)
The headlights can be ultra slim or a sharper evolution from today's car utilising a reverse of the forthcoming L shaped headlights.
Compared to today's car there is a more sharper contrast within the styling , organic rounded lines making way for sharper technical edges and a visual look to the more angular age of the E9 and E24.

The air breather is part of the car instead of an add on. And like the new 7er becomes three dimensional but continues the L-shape language that will feature as an evolutionary continuation of the "Bow Line" on the side of the car but be more angular. The Air Breather crosses through this line with an L superimposed on the L of the lower body.

The upper section of the car is more three dimensional and forms at the rear a flatter but modern 6er wrap around bootlid with high placed rear lights similar to how the Vision Future Luxury rear. There are several ideas for the rear lights , some use the L shape as of typical BMW in many variations of size between the length and height of the two lines. There are some ideas that even use |_____| across the boot lid! mimicking amongst others the current Jaguar XJ. The 6er will be offered not only with optional Laser Headlights but also OLEDS.

The interior is an evolution of today's car what with the "Waterfall" effect providing more intimacy to the driver and the centre console is slightly raised and the passenger section is more surface like to accommodate the passenger display monitor. The L shapes continue in the interior door trim that wraps around the front to the rear compartment.

The 250KG weight loss is significant for the 6er the chassis architecture is a blend of high-strength steel, aluminium, magnesium and Carbon fibre. The roof structure AB& C pillars are Carbon Fibre. As is a Carbon Fibre roof (An aerodynamic Carbon roof will be exclusive to the M6.)
This reduces the centre of gravity even greater than the current F13 M6 Coupe.
The 6er will be configured in a Coupe and Cabrio again with a folding buttress-like soft top roof. The Gran Coupe is being decided as an 8er model.

Early discussion around the next M6 leads to talk of around 650PS with additional Carbon being supplied on the bonnet lid and rear boot lid as well as areas in the drivetrain and additional areas with the chassis and suspension.

Sounds terrific! Maybe the only car that could get me out of my '15 F13...

For god's sake, make 'em put fold down seats in it...or get rid of the back seats altogether.

BMW 6-series (2017): new Six codenamed G15 is lighter and sportier

The next-generation BMW 6-series and M6 are being given a sharper focus to become proper Porsche rivals when they launch in 2017, the new issue of CAR magazine reveals.

Today’s 6-series - in coupe, cabriolet and Gran Coupe four-door form - are powerful grand tourers that feel more at home on the autobahn than on winding B-roads. But there’s an awareness in Munich that the cars are pretty to look at but overweight, inadequately packaged and relatively soft-edged.

These drawbacks must and will be addressed. See more of this story - and news of the more powerful BMW i8S - in the latest December 2014 issue of CAR magazine. Click here for a free preview.

BMW 6-series (2017): what’s new on G15
Chairman Norbert Reithofer has promised a proper Porsche fighter and a car worthy of the brand’s DTM laurels, CAR hears.

Once again, there will be three different bodystyles from 2017: the 6-series coupe (G15), 6-series cabriolet (G14) and 6-series Gran Coupe (G16).

While the Gran Coupe gets a longer wheelbase for a more spacious interior, the other two 6-series variants will actually come down in size. This will help BMW’s ambitious weight-saving efforts, said to shave about 200 kilos off the grand total.

While the new 640i Coupe will likely tip the scales at around 1560kg, the corresponding soft-top is expected to check out of the calorie counter at 1700 kilos. Hardly a bantamweight, then…

A new architecture for the new 6-series
All future 6-series derivatives are based on an advanced modular architecture which used to be known internally as 35up for 3-series, 5-series and bigger. This matrix has recently been renamed CLAR, which is short for cluster architecture.

The new acronym was chosen to stress the extra flexibility provided by fewer but more versatile submodules (clusters) which are more extensively adjustable in content, size and adaptability.

CLAR also stands for a more advanced material mix which introduces some carbon fibre elements, additional high-strength steel sections, selected magnesium and titanium accents, and a broader variety of aluminium alloys. Result? Lighter weight - and a lower centre of gravity, as the weight can be positioned carefully around the structure.

In combination with shorter overhangs and a wider track, this should make the high-end two-door models notably more agile and inspiring, engineers hope. In addition to air breathers, air curtains and downforce-enhancing front and rear air blades, insiders are predicting an active aero kit which would be standard on the M6 and optional on the rest of the range.

Engines in the new BMW 6-series (2017)
It is clear that the Bavarian Motor Works will continue to put a strong emphasis on the evolution of the legendary straight six, codenamed B57, B58 and S55. Motors already confirmed to CAR include:

BMW 640i 3.0-litre in-line six (B58) 347bhp
BMW 640d 3.0-litre in-line six (B57) 333bhp
BMW 650i 4.4-litre V8 476bhp
BMW M6 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo 600bhp

Four-wheel drive xDrive models will be offered across the board, but a hybrid is at this point not pencilled in.

I really think -250kg would help way more than +50hp, which kind of seems to be the norm when new generations of a car this size appear.
And keep the straight six-ness xD
This car should be like a modern E24
Should be called F24, I don't know

Next generation BMW 6 Series might drop the convertible model

The new 6 Series will arrive in 2018, seven years after the introduction of the F12 Convertibleand F13 Coupe models, but compared to the current generation, the new 6er might drop the convertible from its family. According to a report by Automobile, not only the convertible might be gone, but also the 6 Series Gran Coupe. The latter’s dismissal is based on the decision to bring the 9 Series to market.

BMW’s new 6 Series is built upon the new CLAR platform and will have optional air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and a brand-new quad-turbo inline-six producing some 550 hp.

Our own sources say the design of the 6er will have a more dynamic roofline than the current model and shallower glasshouse. Some of the sleek design cues seen on the 4 Series Coupe are an inspiration for the larger two-door model with a stretched roofline which puts the C-pillar just behind the rear wheels and allows a short rear overhang. Some suggest it will have the visual dynamics of an Aston Martin.

The new 6 Series will go on a diet for a total weight saving of around 200 kilograms. The rear axle comes from the new 7 Series, but xDrive all-wheel drive will continue to be offered.

I can't believe the new 6 will not get a Convertible and a Gran Coupe.
The planned 9-series will play in a complete different league. So the 9 would be no alternative for the most drivers and potential customers of the 6 GC.
For me the rumored 2 GC and the 4 GC are closer to each other. Nevertheless BMW see enough market to sell both.
What do you think?
:)
