We already know how this car will look like. Just a raised up A-Class with close to no differences :)
If it happens to be the opposite I'll donate all my money to Justin Bieber! :D
MB are not taking it seriously lately...

Long hood -- headroom -- muscular flanks -- steel wheels. Looking forward to the upcoming concept elucidating the GLA's DNA, which is probably a bit exaggerated to accentuate the design. Also noted some rear door window similarities with the E-Class (W212) on the bottom.

so in other words the GLA is just a jacked up A class for the US market, no design changes or anything significant. thats a waste of product and money its doesnt even look attractive already from what i'm looking at. as proud as i am or MB this is probably the model i'm least anticipating

An AMG version is possible, but not confirmed, and it wouldn’t become a reality for some time.

AMG just confirmed the GLA 45 AMG with a particular focus on the US market. (y)

He added that this is how the C63 Black Series came about, “just because one of the engineers thought that it would be a good idea. So we built it…” He also confirmed that a Black Series version of the current E63 towards the end of its life is possible.

In addition to the four-wheel-drive C63, a four-wheel-drive GLA 45 AMG version of the firm’s new GLA SUV - due to be unveiled in concept form at the Shanghai Motor Show - will be sold, with a particular focus on the US market.

Gindele also told us that a four-wheel-drive AMG version of the new Mercedes S-Class will be made, but that the forthcoming SLS Electric Drive supercar is unlikely to spawn more electric AMG models. “It’s important for AMG to do a car like this, but it weighs over two tonnes. I sat down and did the sums and realised that the SLS only does the equivalent of 15 litres [per 100km, or 18.8mpg].”

Production Mercedes GLA to Debut at Frankfurt 2013

About a year ago, during the media event marking the start of A-Class production in Germany, Dr. Dieter Zetsche announced that in 2013 the same factory will also be building a new subcompact crossover based on the same modular platform.

A recent story published by CarScoop suggests the GLA will be shown as a concept first at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show in April (21-29). The report is based on a statement made by Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche's speech at the company's Annual Press Conference in Stuttgart.

"Two months from now, we will provide a first look at our compact SUV in Shanghai [April 21-29]. The world premiere of the series version will follow at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September," doctor Zetsche said.

So, we're getting a concept with a silly name like " Style CrossCoupe Concept" in April and the real deal in September. Sounds like a plan!

We've been tracking the GLA as it evolves from mule to production-ready prototype. The smallest of Mercedes's G models promises to offer something for everybody. At the economy end of the spectrum, Renault-sourced diesel engines are going to offer economy figures the GLK can only dream of, but there could also be an AMG version of the GLA, with lower ground clearance an the same 360 HP 2-liter turbo engine as the A45.

Mercedes "Cross Activity Vehicle"

Shanghai Debut For GLA Concept
The plan of Mercedes-Benz in unveiling the GLA concept during the Shanghai Auto Show was confirmed recently by the CEO of Daimler, Dieter Zetsche. Zetsche made the confirmation during a press conference that was held in Germany. The executive indicated the production model of the luxury vehicle will be launched in September during the Frankfurt Auto Show.

No specific details were revealed by the Daimler boss at the press conference. However, spy images that emerged earlier showed that the upcoming vehicle will have a similar design as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Its main differences from the A-Class are its higher ride height and redesigned body.

The engine choices for the GLA concept is expected to have some of the usual options. This means it will include a number of four-cylinder engines that offer outputs reaching 211HP (155kW). An AMG model of the upcoming luxury vehicle is expected to feature a four-cylinder 2.0 turbo-charged engine that offers a power output of around 354HP (260kW).

Mercedes-Benz at the Shanghai Auto Show 2013: Design study of the upcoming GLA (X156)

At the Shanghai Auto Show 2013 (21 to 29 April 2013), Mercedes-Benz will present a design study of the upcoming GLA (X156) "Cross Activity Vehicle" along with two local premieres.

The expected S-Class (W222) premiere will not take place at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2013 - for the Stuttgarters show the design study for the future "small SUV" based on the MFA platform in Shanghai. Several vehicles are already based on the new platform, the new A-Class and B-Class and the new CLA (W176, W246 and C117), but now the new GLA of the X156 series will join them, which will be produced at the Mercedes plant in Rastatt starting this fall.

In addition to the GLA design study, Mercedes-Benz will present two local premieres. The production version of the GLA (X156) will have its world debut at the IAA 2013 in Frankfurt and will arrive at the dealers in 2014.

REPORT: Mercedes-Benz supposedly readying two very different compact SUVs - the GLA and the GLG
This news is taken out from the speculations' bin and was released on the market by the German automotive magazine Autobild, that allegedly has information Mercedes-Benz will offer two compact SUVs developed on the MFA platform. The first to come out is the GLA-Class, arriving in 2014, and the latter one is the GLG, which looks to be a tribute to the G-Class in terms of styling.

Mercedes-Benz will enter the segment of premium compact SUVs/crossovers when it launches the eagerly anticipated GLA-Class model. A logical addition to the ever expanding A-Class/B-Class portfolio, this vehicle will target BMW X1 and Audi Q3 and be offered in either front-drive or 4x4 configuration. The GLA will sport company's frugal 4-cylinder engines already in use the MPV and hatchback cars the Germans have already released. If we are to believe rumors, chances are a hardcore GLA 45 AMG rolls off the Affalterbach labs. With almost 350 hp, it would certainly be an unbeatable and one-of-a-kind proposition in the SUV market.

What we find rather intriguing is the rumor we mentioned above. The GLG derives from the GLA and is a very interesting, retro-styled niche vehicle that aims to capture the minds of enthusiast with the help of a fashionable, rough, boxy exterior that, in every sense, harks back to the rich heritage the iconic G-Class created at Mercedes-Benz. To put it straight, this is a baby G that should also have some off-road abilities. While we find this daring, it is still hard to believe the German carmaker will ever build such a variant of the GLA, even though it could turn out to be a hit among buyers. If the GLG sees the light of day eventually, it won't do it before 2016.

If the plans Mercedes-Benz has to construct a consistent fleet of niche vehicles are greenlighted in their actual form, it means the Stuttgart-based constructor will then have the largest offering of crossovers and SUVs in the premium segment. Imagine: G, GL, GLK, M, E-Class Van to replace the R-Class, GLA, GLG, GLC, MLC and C-Class Van. Quite a lot of letters, a bit of an overcrowded list, but rather individualized and self-assured vehicles to suit all tastes. Until we know anything for sure, we invite you to take a look through the next CGIs of the announced, future GLA we found across the internet. Enjoy!

An update from Auto Motor und Sport, latest issue. :)

Mercedes City-G planned
Small SUV based on shortened A-Class

Mercedes-Benz is planning a small city version of the G-Class, and thus the second compact SUV following the GLA. Auto Motor und Sport claims to have learnt from Mercedes business circles the City-G will only be four meters long. The Mercedes City G is thus about 30cm shorter than the compact GLA SUV, which premiers in the spring of 2014.

The City G is based on a shortened A and B-Class platform, which is being jointly developed with Renault. This platform called JC1 (Joint Compact 1) is to be developed by 2016 and is also designed for all-wheel drive. The next B-Class may also be based on it.

Ener-G-Force Optics

The small Mercedes City-G will optically be based on the Ener-G-Force concept, which Mercedes introduced last fall, while the engines of the GLG City-G come from the A- and B-Class.

The small G-Class is equipped with five seats, and among other things a 360-degree camera, which will debut on the E- and S-Class later this year. The camera allows Surround View and even automatic braking in unexpected cross traffic.
