BMW sportscar in 2015 ?

According to Autozeitung 5/2012 M division is planning a sportscar in 2015 based on i8 architecture. Engine will be 4.4 V8 with 600 hp and it weight less than 1350 kg thanks to carbon fiber and aluminium structure. Engine will be in the middle of the car. Hope this information is reliable.

Those are hypercars. A sporstcar would be Subaru BRZ.

A little too much journalistic excitement. Nothing is final but 2015 is the year that BMW will be able to equip certain cars with lightweight CFRP components from BMWi and for BMW that begins with the next 7er and for M. The M3 replacement M4 Coupe. And because BMW are producing CFRP in-house there is no overheads to specialist manufacturers per kilo of the material.
Therefore cars like the M4 etc will be able to offer more lightweight materials ahead of its key rivals.

In the meantime there will be plenty to discuss on M's other plans regarding the M@40 celebrations at the M festival 2012. Where M.performance fits in and the future of the brand and material technology at the BMW M. Night on the eve of the Beijing Autoshow at the end of April.
And of course some debate over the course of the Press day @ Geneva.

Remembering my comment that the LFA wasn't a supercar this above statement has opened a can of worms.

Would you say a 320d is a wannabe M3? Or that a 3er is just a wannabe 7er?

Would this mean that they no longer need any stake in SGL, their partner for carbon fiber production?
