M3/M4 BMW F80 M3 First Drives Anticipation Thread

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

CAR Magazine in the UK comes in with the first review:

I can't see the full review either. But its the reviews from EVO and Autocar that matters to me the most.

Anyway, here is a little quote from the reviews posted by Hot ice. Found it surfing the web...and according to the net, they never drive the car, just being a passenger. so its kinda rubbish review with no much value.

The M3 strides away from its predecessor in all kinds of ways: it is faster, more frugal and handles better. On top of that, it raises the bar in terms of involvement, response and satisfaction..

Posting the scans soon.

I have to say that it doesn't read like a first-person review. Odd story - written like a new model reveal article but with some snippets of insight into the driving experience. Notice the car "tested" had what I think are US plates and a metal engine brace.

I must have some kind of super memory or something, but I remember this from exactly a month ago in this thread.

Slightly different wording but it's the same journalist, Georg Kacher, and the registration of the M3 is the same.

Exactly the same discussion ensued and @SCOTT27 said this about it.....

"Umm. They have not driven it. No one gets a drive until May."

However, as a customer took delivery of their M3 in Abu Dhabi last week, who knows whether he actually drove it.

I have answered this question on other forums also.

Let's just say some are not as important as they think they are...

This is not the first out with BMW to own M3 and M4 a very special Bavarian individual was the first.

This generation is probably going to be best m3 to have/live with. So would be M5, but it had flaws like weight and steering feel, which i doubt f80 will have.

More torque, probably even better transmission (or will it be the same?), more frugal, lighter, a better ride, better looking and better interior (subjective).

These all make the car easier to live with, I agree, so that answers the "live" part.

Now, how about the "have" part?

I owned an E92 M3 and I have absolutely no interest in this one. To make the car easier to live with, they've removed the one thing that interested me. The NA V8.

What I don't understand is if people want an "easy car to live with", then don't buy a bloody M3! Buy a 335d xDrive or a 435d xDrive. Almost as fast as the M3 in the real world, and cheaper to buy and run.

Making the M3 easier to live with does not necessarily mean a "better" M3.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
