It´s true this F10 5er has become boring with the years, something that always happened with the E39, on the contrary than with the E34 and E60, as they were more sporty.

But it is true as well there are other cars on the segment far worse designed. You see nowadays the crime MB has commited with the E-Class FL, and you don´t get bored, but simply want to cry and give the designers a hug and wish them luck on another profession.

The 5er has a magnificent stance, a beautiful interior and some fantastic and class leading engines. Audi has a better front end, and better finished interior and a more stricking performance variant with the RS6, but as a package, the 5er is still ahead by a margin IMO.

The 5er's strengths is that it is entirely competent. Everything accomplished is without effort. Although the craziness in style has died with the much admired E60, the F10 still retains the position of market leader , when we see the final car in a couple of days you can see how respectful The update is in regards to subtlety of that well admired design. Black Sapphire with optional LED headlights enhance its appearance even in its basic form.

Its chassis is boring, its interior is boring, and its exterior looks like an E39 made to comply with modern NCAP tests. While the E39 is a great looking car, you cant make the 5er look like that forever. Hell even its ads have become incredibly boring. Its just a boring car. Yeah, it has some elegance to it, but so did the E60. However, that car could not be described as boring... at all. You keep throwing out that its a market leader. Until I get put on BMW's payroll, I don't care how it sells. I want a car that is exciting. One that makes the hair on my back stand on end. One that I look forward to drive and see. The F10 (nor any other BMW currently produced) does that.

^And I have seen a couple of new e classes in different colours and they are just plain ugly. MB destroyed a nice car with this FL.

Yep im not a huge fan of the FL E class..but atleast its not boring

The pre Fl E class is a stunner imo

3 more years with minor cosmetic upgrades on the F10? it will look ancient by the time its replaced..

Actually thats where your wrong, I expect every BMW to be an exciting car to drive. So far, I have been dissapointed with all of the F-Series cars I have driven (F02, F10,F13,F30). The best was the F30, which was only decent if you think of it like a 5 Series, rather than a 3-Series.

Between the A6, the E, and 5er...if I had to pick a car that i'd be happy looking after 10 years of owning it, I can almost guarantee you, it'd be the F10 5er.

I started out just with design, then I included the chassis in my rant to drive (pun totally intended) the point home. The point being that its just a boring car in every way.

Actually I partially take that back, it is still offered in a manual. I do have to give BMW credit for that.

Thank goodness BMW did not get E-class LCI fever and destroyed a awesome design. F10 LCI has just enough to keep it the best in it's segment. Still the best BMW money can buy in terms of value in it's awesome total sum of what this great car offers.

Well done, again, BMW. Keep at it, keep being proud of your products and hold on to your perceived and tactile quality. For having my knock-on, lick and touch test drive of the new A-class...shame that the worlds oldest car brand and a German Premium one at that can produce such utter sh!t-below-KIA Rio-interiors.

Hope you get it and make serious notes BMW and VAG. For both the F20 and new A3 is light years ahead, keep it up!

Not that the 5er is a bad looking car. But BMW should take their facelift more seriously. Just changing the light design won't do it, IMO. They car will age even more, when the facelift is so small..

5-series just become better. subtle and a perfect facelift. The front is the only change they had to make.
I dont understand why people want BMW to spend more money on the facelift with the risk to overdone it and make it worse. As said before the sales are still strong (and still the best seller in the segment?) so why spend unnessecary money on big changes. Just see what happen to E-class after MB spend 1 billion euro on a facelift
There are still people claiming that E39 is the best looking 5-series and the changes for the facelift werent many. In Three years there will be a new 5-series and Im pretty sure F10 is going to look handsome after being replaced.

Changes in any LCI are mainly to give the IMPRESSION it's a new car, not necessarily because there was anything wrong with the initial design.

Not true. I know Merc fans who owned E-class W210 and W211 but did not like the W212 and bought the Audi A6 instead.

I also know BMW E39 owner who hated the E60 and bought into Mercedes.

Etc etc I am sure everybody here knows someone who did just so.

What does not really matter in the real world is the 0-100 kph time etc etc, that is only debated fiercely by internet fanboys but for owners, that 0.5 second faster ring time does not matter a damn.

What you perceive as fact or reality is, well, your OWN perception of reality.

Don't be a wise ass and say that what you think is the FACT.

If we look back at the history of the 5er and we can see that when it comes to the mid-life freshening that from E28, E34 , E39 , even the E60 and now the F10 that every 5er update is deliberately subtle to not upset the balance.
