.The glory of German industry is not in the big firms that are well known around the world, such as Daimler-Benz, Volkswagen, Siemens, or Bayer (see table 16, Appendix). It is in the small- and medium-sized firms that constitute what the Germans call the Mittelstand . Although that term has political and social as well as management connotations, it has been widely accepted to mean companies that employ fewer than 500 workers. Such firms constitute 98 percent of all German companies, hire 80 percent of all employees, are responsible for a significant share of exports, and provide one of the firmest foundations of the middle class.

Like I said, we are talking about car industry and not the whole industry here. Unlike the cited (and quite dated) article from the 90s.

Along with a "looks like a pig" shot aimed at the Porsche Macan when compared to that lovely Evoque? That hardly speaks to facts relating to the driving characteristics of both cars and does nothing to support your arguments. You don't have to trash the German automaker's just because you feel K is doing that to JLR.

@dermo911

Aren't you trying a little too hard?

You know, for a second there, I too thought @dermo911 was Kilcrohane with the long winded post. But then dermo911 picked "female" for gender, so yea, no way it could be the same person. People never lie about their sex on the Internet. And the Internet is of course full of females who are so passionate about the auto industry to write walls of text about it.

@dermo911, welcome! Do discount what that Kilcrohane posted. He is psychologically marred - seems he witnessed his mother/wife gangbang a whole Jaguar factory or something. Poor guy, I hope he uses his time off from here to get some professional help. He needs it before he does something stupid, like re-roll another account here.

But enough of that, glad to have you on board. (y)

Rurella, it's Kilcrohane.

Good call. He had me fooled, I'll be honest, but I really should have seen it straight away. I mean, "Dermo", an Irish name for God's sake.

What a sad little man he is, although this has given me a big laugh this evening.

Hm. Like what? Gumpert, Wiesman?:)

Do you have sources, stats, figures? Honestly, I asked for solid arguments:banghead:. Germany's big 3 and their chain suppliers (ZF-Sachs, SKF, etc.) employ half of the country. There even is a "VW-Gesetz" ("VW bill") which defines company's share structure, etc. My main point was that the big 3 benefit from their own importance and unlimited support granted by the state.

Besides, we are speaking of the car industry and not industry as a whole, here. Off course there are other big ones, like Siemens or Bosch (who are also automotive suppliers), contributing to ze Industry. But it is not the point here.

Great to be back, mate? :)

Actually the Rolls-Royce SUV will be based on the all-new BMW X7, and you are talking around twice the price of a current top specification Range Rover. Priced in between Ghost and Phantom.
The Rolls won't directly compete with the Bentley in price. Think of the Rolls as the most opulent and ultimate SUV.

But will it be able to match a Range Rover off road Scott?

It's all about the higher/more commanding seating position and the increase in safety compared to RR and Bentley sedans.
It has NOTHING to do with off-road. These cars are not meant to be driven on anything other than pavement.
The Range Rover will not directly compete with neither RR nor Bentley SUVs.
Me and a few other are interested in these new ultra luxury SUVs and non of us is planning to take them off-road.
We can all get a spare Land Cruiser to deal with that task if we want to.

@Betty Swollocks

Thanks for the clarification, he got me. Good Lord, how much time do folks have to come up with this nonsense?

:facepalm: :) Guys, you don't honestly believe that me and Killthecrap are the same pers.!? If you have read my statement carefully, you would see that I am trying to reason with facts and not insinuations, like Killtheswitch does.

The reason I came here, was that I got fed up with reading all that crap on how one car company is worst than the other, and how one SUV or C/D class sedan will kill another, blahblah. Like I said, I don’t have much time (working hard and saving money for my own XE) and you won’t see me very often here. Even though, thanks for the very warm welcome.

The irony of the whole thing now is, that since everyone thinks me and Killthechicken are the same pers., the guy has lost his credibility here and probably will stop writing his mind crap, which was the point behind my coming here:sneaky:.

And I did not really mean to bog down the whole German car industry. Apologize if I offended anyone, cause like I sad, car-taste is very individual. I assume some people would even find the Macacan:lurking: or Cayenne:bag: good looking (guys like Steve Wonder, Ray Charles?:happy:).

It's all about the higher/more commanding seating position and the increase in safety compared to RR and Bentley sedans.

You're kidding yourself if you think you'll be increasing your safety in one of these SUV's. Primary safety i.e. stability, braking and cornering will always be inferior to a sedan. Crash testing doesn't show that SUV's are any better than sedans either, in many instances they are worse. Commanding seating I'll give you that, but then again a Phantom sits you at SUV level already.

Unless of course you're buying a protected vehicle then your RR or Bentley SUV should be able to carry a greater weight of ballistic protection than a sedan.

But will it be able to match a Range Rover off road Scott?

I think if you were to park a countries general Range Rover ownership in a car park and ask which customers actually go off-roading you would probably find that to be around 10%. Most buy it because it is expensive , a symbol of status and something pretty to sit on the driveway.

Recently I was in London and there were illegally and badly parked Range Rover's on several streets outside luxury boutiques. "Keep entrance clear" and there was a blinged out new Range Rover parked across it.

Then you haven't met my uncle, he used and abused his Range Rover in the manor that Range Rover built them to be used and abused.

I think you should go on a date with Kilcrohane, I am sure both of you are living together already.
