X5 [Official] BMW X5 (F15)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
Oh god, now I'll have even less time for this site, with kilcrohane unbanned, I'll have to trundle through pages and pages of vexatious crap.
Well technically he hasn't been unbanned as such, it is that the banned period expired. We are always monitoring the situation, and the next ban will not be temporary, if we have to come to that. The best option you have now is the ignore button.

Having said that, we are always open to any constructive feed back.

As for Kilcrohane.....just answer Betty's post so you guys can be done with each other.

I'm not holding my breath. :D

Unfortunately there are people who have absolutely no interest in engaging in discussion or seeing things from a rational viewpoint. @Kilcrohane is obviously entitled to his opinion but when that person is so entrenched that they refuse to even acknowledge hard evidence to the contrary then you're banging your head against a brick wall.

A bit like a religious cult.

So, until the inevitable happens and @Kilcrohane receives a permanent ban, he'll just continue to use this forum as a vessel from which to spout his OBVIOUS biased, vitriolic, hate-filled bile, and I'll just try to ignore him. Why anybody gives him the time of day is beyond me. He's obviously been fired or "wronged" by JLR, Autocar, or both, and is finding it difficult to get over it. That can only be the logical answer to why somebody would go to so many lengths to post about a certain brand so much.

^ What's wrong with passionate & biased debater who can present some arguments? I like that more than some mouthy wannabe debaters who present NO arguments at all. And spend most of the time here commenting other people's personae & actions rather than the debated topics. Like you usually do.

What?

He isn't debating ANYTHING. He just relentlessly posts his diatribes without any interest in what anybody else has to say. He states his opinion that Autocar are biased and just paid shills for JLR. When I respond and argue that they're not, and present HARD evidence which suggests the opposite, as I have done on the previous page where in three tests ALONE this week the JLR product hasn't done particularly well, he just ignores my post. That isn't a debate @EnI

Two days ago. In Autocar posted two days ago, Jaguar F-Type comes third out of four.

Posted three days ago. Car Magazine vote for the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG S and NOT the Jaguar XFR-S.

Posted 5 days ago. Autocar compare the Evoque with the Macan. The Macan doesn't just win. It annihilates the Evoque, and Steve Sutcliffe makes this perfectly clear. If Autocar were on JLR's payroll, wouldn't they at the very least say the Evoque is ALMOST as good as the Macan?

Those three reviews are just in the last 5 days alone, and completely disprove your theory. If you were open minded you would look at this evidence and realise that Autocar are not just a mouthpiece for JLR, but you're not. You have your completely biased viewpoint and nothing is going to change that.

I've no idea what's happened in your past that you have this complete irrational hatred of a certain manufacturer. Personally I couldn't give a toss about JLR, but I hate seeing someone coming on here and just posting nonsense and getting away with it.

So, comparing X5 to RR Sport or to Cayenne will almost always result in X5's defeat

Is that so. Maybe for Autocar stable publications, but not for those who do objective testing:

http://www.autozeitung.de/auto-verg...leich-luxus-suv-bilder-technische-daten/fazit

BMW X5 50i v Porsche Cayenne Turbo v Range Rover Sport V8 S/C

1. BMW 2. Porsche 3. R/Rover - by a large margin

Remember what I said about the ludicrous Autocar New Zealand test of the 5.0 litre S/C R/R Sport versus the X5 50d:

'As others said this comparo is irrelevant. It should have been the X5 50i, which I have no doubt would out-perform the 2.5 tonne R/Rover, for far less bucks'
Well guess what, that's what Auto Zeitung did, and as predicted the mere 450 hp of the X5 50i trounced the 'lightweight' all-aluminium 500 horsepower plus Range Rover:

X5 50i - 0-100 km/h 4.4 s, plus most economical and cheapest

R/R Sport S/C - slowest, thirstiest - 17.2l/100km!, probably heaviest, poor ride on its poseur 22" wheels, but apparently it has the lowest insurance category and standard rear seat A/C controls, so that makes up for it generally being a bit crap.

So far from the new X5 always being defeated by the supposedly 'sportier' R/R Sport, the only two objective tests done so far, by AmuS and AZ, of the base diesel X5 and the 4.4 V8 petrol, both show the X5 trouncing the slower, less economical, less agile and sporty, and more expensive R/Rover.

The Cayenne remains the non plus ultra of large sports SUVs, though, but badly needs that coming refresh this year, to get back on a par with the new X5 in infotainment, safety systems, slightly more economical engines, and so on. On the other hand, the Range Rover Sport is brand new, and won't get a significant refresh for at least two years, and yet still came last by a distance. Perhaps now we see why JLR are desperate behind the scenes to get engines from BMW/VW group.

I saw the new X5 for the first time earlier this week. In metal, the front is very good looking, pics don't do it justice. The rear hatch or light - not sure which - is odd looking, not bad, but odd.

Yeah considering how common the last X5 was on the street the new one is very thin on the ground, I finally seen my first one today that wasn't at a dealers.

It does indeed look a bit odd when seen among other cars but I can't quite put my finger on it as to why, the back and front each look great but side on it's as if the wheels look too small or something and this was an M/Sport one.

A new render of the X5M , the front is slightly accurate but why oh why do they not foresee that the air breather and vent will be combined?

You mean the inlet above the license plate? If so, I think it look great to keep it as it is in that render. Change the kidney slats to the M-style and BHAM!

I also saw it up close in Europe on a recent business trip. I believe it was on display in Frankfurt's airport (white). Much better looking in the metal compared with pictures I had seen. The rear is the only weak spot at some angles. Thumbs up from me.

The problem with the X5 in photographs is that looks completely flat. When you see it in real life you can see the broader wheel arches adding more definition to the body. My only complaint is the X5 needs large wheels to make an impression. I have the M50d at the moment and there is nothing I can think of to say anything against it. Its a beast.

I saw the new X5 yesterday and I think the previous model looked much better, the new one has over designed lights and the front fenders are flatter than on the sides without having the nice bulging fenders of the the previous model. Back lights look much edgier, but overall it looks like a bad evolution step compared to the previous X5

The lower model variants with the normal tires looks good, but the upper models with the wider tires... WOW, unmistakably an X5!
