5 Series [Spyshots] 2014 BMW 5-Series GT facelift, major changes at the back

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972. The car is sold as either a sedan or, since 1991, a station wagon (marketed as "Touring"). A 5-door fastback (marketed as "Gran Turismo") was sold between 2009 and 2017. Each successive generation has been given an internal G-code designation since 2017. Previously, a F-code designation was used between 2010 and 2016, while an E-code designation was used between 1972 and 2010. These are used to distinguish each model and generation from each other.

Major changes at the back
The BMW 5-Series GT is preparing to receive its first facelift which will be revealed later this year.
It seems BMW is sticking to the Gran Turismo models as the 3-Series GT was unveiled a few days ago in addition to this facelift for the bigger 5-Series GT. This second batch of spy photos hides a fairly more elegant rear end as the car will drop the big rear spoiler, even though pictures might suggest otherwise.
The front of the car will adopt a redesigned bumper with different air intakes, while the headlights and grilles look the same. Minor revisions to the interior cabin are also expected, while the engine lineup will most likely be carried over from the current version.
The BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo facelift should make its debut later this year at a major auto show before going on sale in 2014.

To be honest I quite like the way the frontal-rear view looked. Rearlights were powerful and had presence. IMO the whole GT lineup's biggest question mark isn't the frontals, but the shape. It's something I'm not too too against (especially with the 5erGT since the interior is just sublime), but I can definitely see why it's such a loud statement.

The followings shots were taken some weeks ago by me. While some prototypes from new 5-Series (G30) were testing an two mules from X3 (G01), only this 5GT appeared in the road and tester drivers had a very special interest that I don't to take pictures.

Looks like very rare that they are using one old prototype from 5-Series GT now, but they could be testing anything new and they're using as a mule. I've been thinking in hydrogen fuel-cell like as the prototype that has been announced recently.

Its either the mule for the new GT utilising the CLAR matrix or they are testing in public the Power eDrive or Fuel Cell drivetrain which will be offered within the next 5er Gran Turismo as well as Plug-in Hybrid models. 30e/40e and 50e. The interior uses the best bits of the 7er but applies them especially in the rear like you are in the first class cabin of airplane. Similar as before but more luxurious.
As well as using the Carbon Core, the 5er GT will use more BMW Carbon Technology especially its full rear hatch which will be fabricated from CFRP which was showcased on the Fuel Cell car.

Does 50e means the combination with a 6 cylinder engine?
The Administrator of "7er.com" had an invitation for the press presentation in Porto.

http://www.7-forum.com/forum/59/fragen-neuen-7er-216686.html

Ahead of this he asked the members which questions are important for the talk with BMW developers. So "Hybrid with 6 cylinder" was one question which he asked during the presentation.
BMW developers negated plans for a such drivetrain.
But I think the answer could be the usual tit for tat so as not to make all plans public.
