4 Series (F32) [Spyshots] 2014 BMW 4 Series Spy Pics & Info

The first generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the F32 (coupé version), F33 (convertible version) and F36 (five-door liftback version, marketed as 'Gran Coupé') compact executive cars. The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the 3 Series into a separate series. Production: July 2013 – September 2020
No, thanks to the 4er Cabrio! I hate four-seater Cabrios with folding hardtops!

Agreed. A 4 seater needs a soft top....E46 is still beautiful as a cabrio. Proportions are just perfect and well beyond the F33.

But it has to be said that both the E36 and E46 cabrio versions have a slightly longer rear deck too, compared to their coupe versions..

The best part of the E46 is the trunk being separate from the part that hides the roof, where it is one big part on the E93, resulting in HORRIBLE shutlines. This will sadly be the case on F33 too.....I can already see the crappy, Ford/VW-like trunk shut line :(

Oh well, there will always be a softtop 2er cabrio. Will be closer to E46 cabrio size wise, anyways...

- you're comparing a soft top to a folding metal top. Once the decision is taken to go folding hard-top how else are the designers supposed to make the "horrible shutlines" work?

- exactly. The much larger 4-Series convertible caters for those wanting the all-season capability, security, and higher refinement of a hard top covertible, whilst younger, less rich, more concerned with lower weight, "shut lines" etc. buyers can be catered for with the new 2-Series soft top convertible.

IMO folding metal roofs work best in a 2 seater sports car application, when you try to transfer this to a 4 seater it just looks messy at best, though even then they are still a major compromise towards handling.

Exactly, folding metal roof looks much better applied on the Z4. But if F32 coupe gets a true panorama roof, I suspect it would tempt many who like the more "open air" experience but don't like the uglier silhouette and "seams" of F33 when the roof is up.

This would look grand with a canvas roof. I fear excessive "shutlineitis" on lighter colored cars. Or perhaps BMW could explore Porsches' 991 cabriolet theme-canvas like covering on the hard composite folding top. Farewell shutlines !

i don't know something looks a little wrong with the cabrio? proportions...i don't know, the greenhouse is too small due to the lenghthened space for the roof at the back...anyway, people drive it with the top down so who cares.
Hard top, just feels more premium i suppose, so that when the top is up you don't feel you are in a cabrio, it's a FOUR series, too high class for a soft top nowadays, sadly. Even the old 6er had a soft top in my memory? don't really know why hard tops are everywhere now. bring on the 2er!

Has been F32 launch delayed ? If Im correct, it was said it will be unveiled in Shanghani autoshow...

All Scott said was that they were on their way to Shanghai.

That could mean the publicity shots are being taken on the Bund. It could mean they're being shown behind closed doors to select BMW China execs. Doesn't mean it was being launched there.

The three cars were shown to BMWs Chinese distributor along with the X5 and the new M3 Sedan on the eve of the show at approximately the same team VAG wheeled out Neo , ahem sorry Keanu at their annual showcase. The BMW i3 was also shown because the car is undergoing commercial and media shoot in Shanghai currently against that futuristic backdrop of the Shanghai skyline . The 2er and the X5 are undergoing shoots in LA and surrounding desert. The i3 is going global, because of its significance of BMWs priority launch of 2013. next stop is two cities in the UK.
