'Human' is wrong. Autocar is laughably predictable:

Top 5 Luxury saloons
1. Jaguar XJ
The Jaguar XJ is a thoroughly modern luxury saloon, and a brilliantly capable one

- that'll be the reskinned 2002 XJ, that no one over 6'2" can sit upright in, with the dreadful suspension, and the one that's bombed on sale since 2009, is overdue an urgently required facelift/re-do, but apparently to the bought and paid hacks at Haymarket is 'brilliant'.

While I don't think it is the number 1 sedan, it certainly isn't as terrible as you're making it sound. It is VERY athletic due to its suspension and relatively light for its class. You're broken if you can't sit upright in it at 6'2- much taller than that then yes, the headroom starts to get cramped. But someone seeking out a car with that roof line will be needing to make compromises somewhere. It hasn't bombed in the market either, it's selling around A8 numbers, which makes sense has Jag is just now bringing out an AWD model. And that's only for the supercharged V6. The materials used in the interior are nothing short of excellent. The infotainment system however, is indeed terrible.

Autocar is incredibly biased though. I can't read that magazine.

To me, with amg kit and plain are almost two completely different cars...
The w221 looks similar with or without amg package, but this new car really needs the amg treatment to light the fires of desire within me...
But, that amg front fascia... Mama mia...:)
I think the W221 looks massively boring without the amg package.
I'm very excited for this W222. Good to see the S63 in that production video too.

I seen the new S-Klasse in Munich this afternoon and I also saw a Maybach alongside it, In height and length the S-Klasse is tiny.

S class is better than Jaguar!
Because the S class also overrides the Maybach and more luxury.
And Jaguar, Audi A8, Bmw 7 had no such car as "Maybach".
Mercedes has a rich tradition, and for many years famous for it's luxury.

Relax. Nothing in my post said the XJ was better than the S-class. Nothing. You can praise competitors for what they are even if they aren't the best in class.

People in this thread are crazy. :p

I liked W126 560SEL ;-)

S430 will shares the same 3000cc V6 twin turbo gasoline engine with FL E400,probably be tuned for higher output than E400's 333PS and 460NM.
The reason why it will ought to be named 430,firstly is to different the exsiting S400 HYBRID;secondly, I think this is Merc's trandition,Merc used to name a bigger number than BMW,just like E430 VS 540(0),S430 VS 740(0) in the past.

I for one hope they do not create a 4 door coupe labeled as an S class. If they want a 4 door coupe why not create a new model, a big brother to the CLS or something. I think the S should be limited, exclusive to the sedan and 2 door coupe. Just my thoughts.

Heard of Rolls Royce and Bentley?
During the last 10 years both VAG and BMW AG were far more succsessful in selling high end, ultra luxury, limited production cars than Daimler-Benz... so your point stands for nothing :)

BMW and VAG don't have anything historically to do with those brands they have simply bought the brands not changed mtheir name, so there is no comparison of VAG and BMW to daimler in respect to ultra luxury cars

To be fair, you do have a point.

If Renault went and bought Ferrari from FIAT tomorrow, it wouldn't suddenly mean Renault are a world leading sports manufacturer.

So just because BMW bought Rolls-Royce, does that mean BMW are a super-high end car manufacturer? Not in my eyes. They own a super-high end car manufacturer. Just because BMW provide engines, chassis, and many other vital parts, it's still a Rolls-Royce.
