In fact, most automotive designers will testify that it is far less challenging designing a visually enticing large car. Making smaller cars pleasing to the eye is a far greater task at hand.

Well... I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting much after seeing that little snippet of a sneak preview, but with the full reveal this things look alright. Of course specific design elements like the shape of the front lights, and the Lincoln-esque rear aren't perfect, I absolutely love the sexy stance coupled with the powerful presence of the car. Some compare it to the A7, and that's valid to a certain extent, but the sheer size of this thing (7er Coupe size) and that upright front (as Human stated) really make this thing look grand!

I agree with many that this is not as jaw-dropping as the CS Concept from 2008, it's fascinating how a number of key design elements are still present in this car even though it's a good 5 years after the CS Concept. I think with a tweaking of the front and rear lights, this would be a worthy two-door coupe variant of the CS Concept. It's a design concept, so you have to broaden your mind to some of the design elements. The rear lights for example, are an exaggerated variation of the BMW ConnectDrive Concept.

The side profile is not too different to the CS Concept. Of course the lack of the rear doors means a shallow/sleeker rear end, but the similarity in overall profile is still all BMW.

The over 6 year old CS Concept may be the most visually arresting automobile that has ever left a BMW design studio. And rarely has an automobile been so capable of retaining its' aura of modernity, a timeless freshness.

Should there be any truth in the elaboration that BMW is in the process of concentrating on the expansion of its' luxury lines of automobiles, the company need to look no further than the CS Concept. It would be a grand addition and a most fitting flagship line. It can be easily envisaged in a 2 door coupe/convertible configuration which would supplement the stunning 4 door. And it would maintain an abundance of halo credibility. It is a car that certainly has a stature above that of the 6 series or 7 series.

And it makes concepts such as the Gran Lusso appear patently superfluous.

Love the look of this car, it's amazing. The shark like profile is a BMW thing so get used to it. I will agree that although it is a stunning interior, it does not belong in a concept.

Some details are really good some are not so good. The profile is AMAZING, BMW is the best of the premium three (Audi, BMW, mercedes) in making attractive profiles. But, then again the CS is a different beast such a car is S** for my eyes maybe it will reborn again with a good mix of the Concept CS and the Gran Lusso. This is a preview of BMW future and it looks very good.

a photo comparison between this and its "competitors" would be good - Continental, Wraith, S class Coupe, and............

I can't make up my mond on this one. I think I would need to see it person.

BTW Scott, I see what you did there.

I never saw the car at BMW until last night so for people who are familiar with the direction of the G11 7er then they know how this car fits in with that in detailing , outline and upper characterline surfacing. Yes I like it.
The interior is actually cannibalised from some current BMWs such as the F01 and F07 but the quality is apparent as with these two cars .
The next generation 7er continues the current BMW layout with a larger free floating screen and a shelf-like dash like the 5er GT, this concept is not a things to come if we look at the interior but some ideas such as mixing two types of wood in the interior comes from the G11.

Will it make production?
BMW are talking about the luxury segment especially models above the 7er here in Italy , and so are the designers , public reaction is also very good for this car and BMW are taking note of the comments.

“We want to send out the message the future is not all about electric cars, but also traditional models with real emotional appeal. Whether that includes an 8 series is not yet decided. But the Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe gives an indication of how such a car might look.”

Just curious. Who said that?

The electric cars don't have real emotional appeal? Since when?! :O

I can't stop looking at it. Most beautiful!

Cure for any porn addiction(y) Good then!;)

The more I look at it, the less it looks like a true BMW. Otherwise a very nice design.

IMO this looks as if it was designed by Bangle, with its pros and cons.

The exterior looks a lot better in real life, but the interior looks old and doesn't belong in such a car.
