1 Series [Spy Shots] BMW's 7-seater 1 series GT

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
It's the Gran Tourer ... vs the compacter Active Tourer. Both will most probably badged as 2er. :wideyed:

That's the indication & assumption based on trademark registration database, where only BMW 2er Active Tourer & BMW 2er Gran Tourer are registered. No 1er AT / GT (as of yet).

Not sure what the Compactive Tourer will be. Perhaps the sub-1er minivan????

B-class will get a rival. In L & XL size. Mind Audi are also working on a minivan! It's a totally hot segment right now in Europe especially - the premium minivans.

Make a delivery van out of it! That would work!

I highly doubt that but really hope that they will.
It will make a dream company car.
I was considering the Mini Van but nah... This one is bigger and will be way more usefull.
As always... price it right and it could be a part of my company's fleet... bored of VWs, french vans and buses, and what nots(nah, they are actually perfect for what they do).
A BMW company car is great for the image of the company and might very well be worth the premium price.
The standard passenger version will be very useful on my long trips to various exibitions and meetings in Europe as most of the times I travel with car and take some of my people with me too.
Not so expensive, economical, practical, a "BMW" - that works!

PS: I hate the idea of a FWD BMW yet I might be the first one getting it... crazy world!

The anti-BMW mentality:rolleyes:

I think people would be less cynical if there wasn't a semi-official BMW marketing employee who is highly active on this forum frequently creating "spin" for every single thing BMW do, even when there is nothing particularly exciting to say. Instead of making press release-type posts such as:

......the space and height will be very impressive and a first for a BMW to accommodate an uncompromised level of space whilst still maintaining the sporting dynamic appearance of a BMW without resorting to a complete van-with-windows approach.

Projections since the concept appeared in Paris are very high for this car , the car has also been shown at the BMW Welt and will be shown at Geneva and the response has been very good. BMW are hoping for a similar E53 X5 response , that started well, then it snowballed...
The rest they say is history.

how about writing, "you know what? This is a standard box on wheels. It's going to be a money maker, and that's about it. There's nothing else to say about it really, but hopefully it means there will be more resources available to produce something truly exciting with the profits".

People would have a lot more respect for Scott, and will be a bit less critical of BMW's current business plan.

As far as I'm aware, Audi and MB do not have an equivalent of Scott on here; somebody who promotes BMW via "creative marketing". If they did I think the reactions would be the same for Audi and MB.

Creative Marketing .... Betty, you are fighting the wind mills in this case ... almost literally. Taking the whole thing a lot too seriously, dude. Play the game, or leave it. It's that simple. :)

ENI, I was offering a possible explanation to Naas who suggested it was always "anti-BMW".

"Leave"? Leave where exactly? Are you suggesting I should shut up and let BMW creative marketing have free reign, or leave the forum?

"Play the game"? It's a game I and I think the vast majority of the members don't want any part of.

I think you know where you can shove those suggestions.

The anti-BMW mentality:rolleyes:

It's because the company that was founded on 'sheer driving pleasure' from sports saloons will have a lineup more stuffed with SUV's, GT'S and Breadvans with lacklustre driving qualities. And as Betty said, the whole shift in philosophy would be far more palatable if it wasn't shoved down our throats with some BS creative marketing spin that carries on like BMW is gods gift to man kind (that's the S-class :ROFLMAO: ) and every new products is fresh, unique and the greatest thing since sliced bread. Oh theres the bread reference again.

Porsche will never build an SUV or even a 4-door sedan.

Remember, I do not approve as such of a BMW UKL-platform or mom's taxi as per se (neither the below par-quality of the A-class cabin) BUT from a pure business point of view I get the logic, as I explained to the best of my ability in my post you replied to.
It happens in the best families: "Mercedes-Benz and the brand bible, being thrown out of the window" rings a very distant, yet clear bell somehow...mmm...some bells that are rang can't be unrung it seems is true.

So, then BMW joins in the fun of wrong doing by pleasing the shareholders. Survival in a sh!tty world economic climate and tough competition. We will see more, this is just the beginning for ALL Car Manufacturers who still wants to be here in the coming decade.

I wholeheartedly agree, yes the economic rationale is undeniable, but don't shove it down our throats with a spoonfull of sheize, and we'll be able to swallow it a whole lot better.

If you have a family , then you will understand. If you like and would like a BMW that can cater to your family then for some you are looking at what most likely would be the "Second" BMW where a current BMW rests on your driveway.

Ok, it will easily be the best looking van.
It will surely wear a BMW badge... but that might be everything about it :)
Maybe it's enough :D

This guy, Theophilus Chin, has some amazing photoshop skills. Amazing!

Other than that, it's BMW inventing the Scenic and the Zafira.

While I do understand both the concept of this vehicle being a niche for BMW and the point of people carriers, I gotta say that if I wanted such a car I would buy a Scenic and then I would buy a proper BMW like a 3er or a Z4. But I can't see myself having one of those.

As to it being a disgrace for BMW, being completely opposite to what BMW was supposed to stand for, well, these are tough times we are living in. If they continue to get the 3er and 5er right, then they can do whatever they want. It's not as if BMW just started milking its badge, and MB's image is intact despite the Vaneo and the B-Class. I actually like the fact that you can buy a Merc even in those segments - I just wouldn't do so.

:)

Can you share with us the dimensions of both the short and long wheel base?
Boot space, rear leg room and such, also.

Thanks in advance :)
