I wonder why its so extensively camoed..often facelift models have less camo..
Maybe a big change is up?

Another facelift? 7-series got a facelift like one year ago. This must be the next generation 7-series being tested, right?

Not sure if you mistook this for the LCI thread, but this is the next generation 7er. Being a revolutionary redesign, it probably warrants such protection in order to keep the design fresh in the eyes of public.

^Oh god..haha one should never get out of bed and get on the forum straight..

My bad.

PS
Looks like a evolution rather than revolution.. ( not necessarily a bad thing)

Still early and lots of camo (if not just an F01 mule at that?) yet it will be IMO more evolutionary in design.

Hoped for something VERY LOW and SLEEK....

It's evolutionary but strikingly futuristic especially the front and rear , the lights are slimmer thanks to LED technology.
But if you look at one of the shots from the rear , you can see the larger multimedia screen in the dash.

The render shows you an idea of the front of the car but it is not wholly accurate in regards to the carry over grille . As the actual grille is larger and wider.

I have a question in regards to why it took so long to see prototypes running and when to truly expect the G11. I remember you'd said before they were selecting final designs back in June 2011, then by circa June 11th of last year someone reported seeing the G11 in a customer clinic. It sounded like a finished car to me. When would they have chosen and frozen the design of it if we are only seeing it now? I ask because the F15 X5 dates back to November 2010 and we started seeing those running within 14 months in 1/2012, yet this one took much longer at 20-21 months. Not only that, it'd be 4 years old when it goes on sale wouldn't it? Is it really due in 2014 or 2015? Thanks.

Mind first new Mk prototypes are camoed to mimic a current Mk design! So this G11 camo tries to emulate F01 design.

Remember the first F01 7er prototypes 6 years ago? Very much mimicking the E65:

I was wondering if laser headlights will make it to production... And what are the stereo cameras for?

And what are the stereo cameras for?

Traffic Jam Assistant. (y)

"Like active cruise control with stop and go function, the traffic jam assistant maintains a specified distance from the vehicle in front, and in particularly heavy traffic can autonomously control the speed of the vehicle right down to a standstill. The difference is that in this case the vehicle also provides active steering input.”

"Traffic Jam Assistant is a wonderful driver assisting system that maintains a constant distance from the car in front, all the way from standstill to 40 kph (25 mph), and actually provides active steering input as well to keep you inside your lane."

TJA will debut in BMW i3 later this year.

Haha, the Merc guys are keeping an eye on the 7 Series. Might be serious threat.

You cannot make assumptions based on the car in its. Current form as there is in appearance nothing to actually see apart from the outline. But some production cues can be seen such as for example the front of the car which shows how dramatic the bonnet line above the headlights would be giving a very dominant look at the eyes of the car. As this is a BMW it is also excessively camouflaged which means plastic panels screwed onto the body to disguise the body then covered in camouflage to add bulk to the car which in its new format the car is anything but in appearance and of course it's engineering.

I have been asked what car gives the 7er its appearance? There is certainly elements of current cars progressed but also there are some interesting features such as the more raked forward dynamic look of the rear of the Vision ConnectedDrive concept car when looked at side on.
Aswell as its own features and firsts such as self-drive and added passenger HUD , features introduced in the BMW i8 will also launch with the 7er such as laser headlights. The interior of the current car mixed with the BMW i8 describes at best the cockpit , a free floating flat screen - the largest yet in a BMW will cover all aspects from Navigation etc.

A V12 will top the range again to be shared with the next generation Rolls-Royce Ghost leaving the next Rolls-Royce Phantom to introduce a V16.

Whilst the design will be very evolutionary. But with slight touches of futuristic minimalism with traditional design elements , one thing that stands out with myself is how E60ish the car looks with that high chacterline and slightly sculpted flanks. After being stopped in my tracks by an E60 the other day it surprises me to see how that car is still fresh and current from a design point of view and still can turn heads, the E63 6er can also do the same.
The true strength of the new car will be its Genetics and a testament to BMWs investment in CFRP. As already announced by previous R&D chief Dr. Klaus Draeger. The new 7er ushers in the Carbon Era for BMW not only will the structure use CFRP but key body panels the roof , doors , bonnet and boot lid will be manufactured in CFRP , the weight savings are not only considerable over the F01 but like every BMW now each generation has to become more profitable than the last. Given the F01 was considerably more profitable than the E65 , the G11 should show an increase.

For the first time in a 7er BMW are seriously considering additional models alongside the standard Sedan including a 7er lXi using a further stretched wheelbase over the standard EWB.

This then the competitor against the Pullman from Mercedes. Again the question is will there be a 7er gc or a big luxury roadster ala Sl? Or we have to wait for the decision?

I hope that this new G11 will be a revolution rather than an evolution. Anyway, a 7er will always make me happy, even if it looks worse. Because I love MB and their S class I will be happy to see that the 7er will dissapoint and if it will look uglier than the S. E65 and F01 were ugly cars so they better do it well this time, just like the E38. If this car will look exterior and interior hot, and have technology and performance at their best I will be happy because I love cars and its another one that proves to be done. Hope for the best ! I want a real hot 7er because I'm waiting for it since 2001.

Human, how could you post such an unflattering picture of the E38?!:D

^This^ is the G11s benchmark:) I know it sounds ridiculous when it's another 2.5 years away, but I'm already really excited about it:D

+1

I really hope the G11 marks the start of proper hood shut lines again... @EnI?
