M genes as standard: the BMW M Performance Automobiles.

New model category with emphasis on sporting characteristics combines exclusive engine line-up, enhanced agility, precise chassis tuning and emotional design. Driving experience defined by the development expertise of BMW M GmbH. World premiere at the International Geneva Motor Show 2012.

Munich. In spring 2012, BMW M GmbH will unveil a new product range for drivers seeking a particularly sporty driving experience, yet who also value the familiar comfort and practicality of BMW models. The BMW M Performance Automobiles offer exclusive engine variants, noticeably enhanced agility and outstanding precision on the road, plus design laced with emotional appeal. The harmonious interplay of engine output, power transfer, chassis technology and aerodynamic balance provides a captivating showcase for the familiar M genes - in day-to-day driving and beyond. The BMW M Performance Automobiles will be presented to the global public for the first time at the International Geneva Motor Show 2012 which takes place from 8-18 March.

The BMW M Performance Automobiles represent a totally new model category none of its rivals can offer. Only the high-performance sports cars from BMW M GmbH provide a more convincing execution of an overall concept focused on inspirational driving dynamics. "We are targeting our efforts at customers looking for more emotionality and more performance, but who don't want to forgo the everyday usability of their cars," said Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, President of BMW M GmbH. Nitschke announced plans for further additions to the new product line-up, referring to "a range including a wide variety of model series, as well as both petrol and diese-engined variants". The intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive would also play a significant role in the BMW M Performance Automobiles, he added.

2011 will go down as one of the most successful years for BMW M GmbH since the company was founded. In addition to the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, which marked BMW M GmbH's first ever foray into the premium compact segment, last year also saw the successful introduction of the new BMW M5. The imminent arrival of the BMW M Performance Automobiles provides 2012 - which will also feature the world premiere of the new BMW M6, among others - with an early highlight.

"The BMW M Performance Automobiles benefit from the full expertise of BMW M GmbH," explained Nitschke. The BMW Group subsidiary can call on decades of motor sport experience when it comes to translating outstanding engine power into excellent dynamics. This development expertise also imbues the BMW M Performance Automobiles with their distinctive character.

The models in the new product category follow in the tyre tracks of the BMW M535i, which was unveiled in 1980 and went on to capture the hearts of performance-minded customers with its extra power, precisely tuned chassis technology and subtly modified design. A fresh addition to the BMW 5 Series ranks, the Sedan remained a highly successful member of the line-up through two model generations and - up to 1987 - with the BMW M5 for company within the range. "Our aim with the BMW M Performance Automobiles is to continue this tradition," confirmed Nitschke.

Upcoming M Performance models:

- BMW X6 M50d
- BMW M550xd
- BMW M135i

However I do not expect to see any N55 in the 1 Series but rather an N20, when the new Audi S3 and the new Subaru WRX are going to be powered by turbocharged 2 liter 4 cylinder engines making about 300 PS. The 1 Series F2X being lighter does not need more power to be faster than the 135i E82.

So, nothing in between?

What do you mean with nothing in between? M Performance is in between: in between a regular BMW and an M

You don't have a single clue what you're talking about. Not a single one.

That is what you always say. If you have some some clue it is a very good move from BMW's parts to fit an N55 into all these cars: M135i, M2, M335i, M335i, M4, X1 M35i, X3 M,...

I'll take the cheapest, with ECU remap, sport cats, upgraded turboes, upgraded intercooler and oilcooler and leave on place the most expensive, the M4. Yeah, sure BMW is going to put the M4 engine in a M135i. Actually it is the other way round, the M4 gets a 1 Series engine.

Later in 2012 you will see an M750d and in early 2013 the M650d Coupe/Cabrio , Gran Coupe.

I meant in between the *shrudder* F20 and the gigantic 50-models.

This treatment should be given to the 28i-models.

I don't think it is a crime to express ones opinions/expectations which was what he did. At no point in time did he ever insinuate the thoughts expressed are from BMW.
Just like you, I think it is safe to say people are allowed to express their opinions here freely without the fear of derision(which seems to be your modus operandi)
Thank you.

^ Meh, I don't turn my personal wishes into some MS word document to make it look real, nor do I expess them in a way that makes it look like it has a base of truth

Ah, I see. But the M135i will come with a strong and powerful I6. That's perfectly 'in between' if you ask me. If anything, there is no lower end M performance engine....the N20 engine.....

Later in 2012 you will see an M750d and in early 2013 the M650d Coupe/Cabrio , Gran Coupe.

You're stating the obvious. Why don't you instead comment on whether the M135i comes with a I6 or I4? It's a fairly easy question with an answer that should be even more easy. You even have 50% chance of being right ;)

I'm still waiting for 120csi and 125csi. A affordable BMW that is.

That will probably be something like the M120i, or M128i? At least, this will be the 4 pot engine receiving this M Performance pack. Not the 135i like what Levi has been saying for a long time.

This is what a bimmer post user has to say about it:

M135i

From the same Dutch BMW dealer presentation in November which yielded the 381hp tri-turbo diesel M550d rumor, came a report that a "M135i" F20 1 series hatchback is coming next summer. Those in attendance were reportedly told about a M135i featuring 320hp and powered by the N55 inline 6 engine.

A few months back, we spied what appears to be an M Sport 135i F20, so we wouldn't be surprised if BMW went with the "M135i" moniker for that car.

The M135i is indeed a six cylinder . and gasp! a Hatch. And for a change the double exhaust pipes are now seperated instead of being stuck together like the current M135i. There is a unique M Aerodynamics package and interior finishes , including the new M steering wheel.
There will be an upcoming Preview in February. And @ Geneva where you will see this Axis of Power ( Alpine Weiss) in color .

Both the Coupe and Cabrio will inherit the M135i when they arrive in early 2013. The M550d xDrive will be available as Sedan , Touring and later the Gran Turismo.

Well, even Scott says M135i will be an I6. I could be wrong and will then stop talking about the I4, but I still don't believe it, and Scott also is not always right. M135i does not mean anything anymore, M550xd neither isn't a 5 liter engine.

Will there be a 128i between the 120i and M135i? I think yes, and I'd rather get the 128i and get out 300 PS from it. It will be less nose heavy than the M135i, but with the same power and torque, lighter and cheaper.

And so we'll see an M235i with N55? Why then buy an M4 with S55? What happend with the 350 PS I4 M2? It is also dead like the Z2 and Z4 M?

:thumbdown

M135i does not mean anything anymore, M550xd neither isn't a 5 liter engine.

No, but we all know it's a V8 and not an I6, just like the 135i is not 3.5 liter but 3.0 liter but still very much I6.
You go from cylinder count to displacement and act as if it's the same.

Yay! More watering down of the M Badge! ///Marketing seems like it's doing it's job perfectly! Keep it up BMW! Remember those 750iLM's everyone use to laugh at? Can't laugh at the anymore can we?
