STUTTGART, Germany — BMW's 5-liter V10 has today been crowned the best engine in the world for the second year in a row at the International Engine of the Year Awards 2006 held at Engine Expo here.

The Bavarian carmaker, which also won awards for the Z4 M 3.2-liter and twin-turbodiesel 3.0-liter, walked away from the eighth annual International Engine of the Year Awards with a total of five awards. The V10 also won the Best Performance Engine and Best Above 4.0-liter categories.

The V10 held off challenges from the likes of Volkswagen's new 1.4-liter TSI and the previous International Engine of the Year title holder, Toyota's 1.5-liter Hybrid Synergy Drive Prius, which in 2006 also won the Best 1.4-liter to 1.8-liter and the Best Fuel Economy categories.

Subaru won its first ever International Engine of the Year Awards trophy with its new 2.5-liter turbo that powers the Impreza, topping the 2-liter to 2.5-liter category. What this means to you: It's truly what lies beneath that matters.

That's the way, aha - aha, i like it, aha - aha...

For a SECOND YEAR IN A ROW!!!

I must ask: was the AMG N/A 6.3 included this year? It should be...

:t-cheers:

Already a new engine award. I see the M3 won again, it has won every year its been nominated here

That was expected.

Next year BMW are going to win again: with N54 3.0L I6 HPI bi-turbo. :usa7uh:

And then with V8 from M3 ...

And then ...

:D

I wonder why MB didn't get their 6.2L V8 counted in the 4.0L+ category, nor the Performance Engine category, instead using the 6.0L V12 Biturbo engine in those categories? Surely it's had its day.

Better luck next time.

In your face Mercedes fans, Unbelievable! the M5 has won again, congrats to the M division. This is a great victory!:eusa_clap

I can`t believe the M156 only cut 4th place. That aside the driver of an S, CL or SL65 can still brag that his engine has made the cut.

So BMW has won this award so has MB in the the past. What about Audi
Has an RS engine ever made the cut to take the victory?

can some1 explain why the m3 engine has won again? it's has realy bad emission levels. Maybe this award doesnt respect emssion capabilties. Thats explaining all...

Looks like BMW has owned these awards!

The BMW 3.2-liter engine, is truly an amazing engine, it's like 5 years old and is still winning awards!

Not sure if Tycoon is happy or not...:t-hands:

Hehehehe.. kidding..:usa7uh: ..!!

That's a great testiment to BMW engine development. Ofcourse, it's no real suprise, but that should mean we just downplay their successes. Excellent stuff from BMW and ///M.

** Hey Tycoon, so how does it feel driving around an award winning engine..??!! Must be great knowing ur driving the best BMW engine behind the M5 & M3 engines.

:eusa_clap to BMW.

next year the 3-4liter category will be 90% the new turbo, or if these guys are not turbo savvy the 272bhp HPI version,, but wait a minute where does that leave the M3 V8? it will have to battel the 3.0 turbo/not or the V10 depending on its exact displacement, maybe the V10 will be performance, the V8 will be abovd liter, and the turbo 3-4?

anyone placing bets? ;)

I like that the VAG 2.0T won in its class (it's a truly great engine from what I hear), and the 2.5 liter Subaru engine as well.

Yay! lol. BMW has done it again. Im still surprised that the light weight 6.3 litre engine didnt win any awards. Very Very interesting to me. It will be interesting to see how BMW does next year with the 3.0 litre direct injected by-turbo and the new 4.0 litre V8 also with direct injection (hopefully).....

Oh yea a couple more questions. Where is the RS4 V8??? And what about Porsche's 3.6 litre turbo and 3.8 litre that produces 400 hp in the GT3??
