Okay, so not exactly a good thread but all of us BMW fans are well aware that every now and again BMW manages to find astonishing talent at making some seriously ugly metal.
IMO as far as current production goes, the X3 and the 1er are by far the forerunners in this category :icondrool:icondrool:icondrool

however, some old classics!

The E36 baur cab:

The Z18:

The BMW Z1:

I still think that the E46 3er is the best designed BMW ever but even I found the ti a bit difficult to digest:

So what are the most ugliest BMW's ever produced in your Opinion?

Haha, I didn't know BMW made a Laundlet 3er, pretty cool! The Z1 was also pretty cool for its time - though it looks lame now. Add the pre face-lift 7er to the top of the list.

yeah the compact is horrific
7er
X3
and 6er arent great either imo:D

*** is this E36 3er in the first post? Was it ever on sale?

There are few as terrible as that 3-Series Compact. My God, what the hell were they thinking? I'd also like to add the X3 as it's just dreadful.

Oddly enough, the Z1 never really bothered me.

IMO the ugliest BMW is the (pre-FL) Z3. Hard to believe that the same guy (Joji Nagashima) was responsible for the E36's / E39's / E90's exterior.

Did you know that Claus luthe (responsible for e.g. the E31 / 8-series) was the designer of the ageless NSU Ro 80?

Agree with everything except Z1! That car was attractive for it's time and those crazy sliding doors also helped it.

Anyhow, since i wouldn't count concepts, here are the ugliest production BMWs as far as i am concerned::

E36/46 Compact, X3, and Z4.

:t-cheers:

Pre-facelifted 7 Series

3 Series Compact

@ BMW Power: The Z18 was never "produced" so it can't be included. It was a test vehicle and attractive aesthetics wasn't the goal. ;)

Definitely, definitely the . Not just one of the ugliest BMWs ever produced, but a strong contender for ugliest modern car full stop in my opinion. What on earth were they thinking when they designed that breadvan? I literally cringe every time I see one out on the roads. Horrible.

Not far behind it are the Z3, Z4, X3, E46 Compact, 6 series, 7 series and E90/91 in my opinion.

The3er Compact takes the cake as the ugliest modern BMW.

Also, the East German BMW...excuse me, EMW 340 was one ugly and bland car.

A classic, but it didn't look good!

For me definitely the X3. I don't like its headlights and cockpit. They don't look much BMWish. Let's hope that next generation of X3 will look more like the smaller X5 and be much more desirable.

When it comes to Compacts, both E36 and E46 are a little strange. I don't like the outdated cockpit and suspension from E30 in E36 Compact and in the E46 I don't really like the front, like most of you probably. Though I wouldn't mind it if somebody gave me the E46 Compact to drive ;)

BMW kinda recycled the lower part of the fugly E46 Compact's bumper in the 1er LCI:

Didn't help one of them design-wise...

The thing about the old 3er Compact that really bothered me were the headlights: they ruined the whole car IMO. If BMW had given that car the normal 3er headlights, it would have at least looked decent.

I still wonder what they were thinking when they gave that car the lights it got. Always looked weird...

I have no problems with the rest of the car, including the body kit. It's the headlights which make an otherwise ok car look terribly ugly. :t-cheers:
