BMW's unique X6 cross-over Coupe is heading to South Africa and will hit local dealerships in June.
BMW claim the X6 to be a ground-breaking design, propagating a new niche within the muddled cross-over market niche. It shares its underpinnings with the X5 and will top BMW's SUV range.
The X6 comes with high-tech gizmos and features state-of-the-art technology such as BMW's Dynamic Performance Control (DPC). DPC splits drive force between drive wheels on the ear axle, acting like a highly sophisticated limited slip differential of sorts.
The first X6 models to arrive in SA will be the 35i and 35d, while the xDrive50i will become available in early 2009.
Already a winner of the 2007 world engine of the year award, the 35i's 3-litre straight six produces 225 kW and 400 Nm of torque, enough to see off the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds, top 240 km/h and return a very reasonable 10.9-litres per 100 km.
The venerable 3-litre straight-six turbodiesel thrusts out 210 kW and 580 Nm.
The 35d and should hit 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, see a 236 km/h top speed and return 8.3-litres per 100km. Pricing
X6 xDrive 35i - R654 000
X6 xDrive 35d - R710 000
