5 Series Wimmer does it again: TOP SECRET BMW 5-SERIES SPOTTED!

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972. The car is sold as either a sedan or, since 1991, a station wagon (marketed as "Touring"). A 5-door fastback (marketed as "Gran Turismo") was sold between 2009 and 2017. Each successive generation has been given an internal G-code designation since 2017. Previously, a F-code designation was used between 2010 and 2016, while an E-code designation was used between 1972 and 2010. These are used to distinguish each model and generation from each other.

Saw this today after the snowstorm subsided. The new 5er is already out so I was wondering what the hell this thing could be. A hybrid? Definitely not as the engine was running (gasoline). M5? Nah. A new engine perhaps? But why cover this car up like this?

Oh, and the driver was a real prick. I gave him the thumbs up and he looked at me as if I was some sort of retard. :D

Maybe it was the xDrive version testing after that snow storm....

Or maybe it's nothing. The tape is because the car still hasn't arrived in showrooms if I'm correct. If a BMW is not yet in showrooms, it has tape when driving around publically, no matter everyone knowing what the car looks like. There doesn't appear to be anything different with this car, and they are most certainly not testing a new engine or something like that...

To be honest, if somebody was stood on a street corner taking pictures of me in a (pretty mundane considering it's widely publicised now) car and then giving me the thumbs up, I would be looking at them funny too, and I wouldn't expect to be called "a prick". What a nice person you are.

Come on Betty, that's a little harsh regarding wimmer's comment. If I was driving around in a just-released automobile (or soon to be) and someone was taking pictures, I would be flattered.

Maybe the guy was being a "prick", it's o.k. to call them as you see them.

I would be flattered too. This guy obviously wasn't OR just couldn't understand why he was getting attention. All this is academic though as being called a "prick" where I come from is a pretty offensive term, even if the word itself isn't actually a swear word. If I heard somebody use that term in public I would assume the person was being very aggressive. If I were to give Wimmer the benefit of the doubt I would say it's a language thing.

Funny that you mention this, and I too think it's a language thing. The German translation for 'prick' is way less offensive than, for example, the German translation for 'ass****'. If I understand this correctly it's the other way round in English. :usa7uh:

LOL a real PrickPic .... Seriously *** :D ^^

Nice set of photos Wimmer. made me like the new 5'r
:t-cheers:

I`ve seen the new 5er in Berlin at Kurfüstendamm. The car was there in three different colors one was saphirre Black, one in the grey color of the press pics and one in a blue color ( I think the same color is availible for the 7er). My favorite color for the 5er is black, because it looks sporty and elegant at the same time. For me the 5er looks 10 times better then on the fotos I like it a lot hmm noo I LOVE IT. The 5er without M-Packet is loocking much better then the non AMG packet E-class. I think the M-packet will give the 5er a much more sportier look. I can´t wait to see the M-packet, because I hope they dont mess up like the 7er M-packet. The Interieur is 1.000.000 times better then the interieur of the E-class. the 5er lounge is luxuries and sporty loocking and elegent . IT IS A MASTERPEACE maybe one of the best interieur I´ve seen. IMO the F10 is a milestone to the e60. there is just one thign i missed and this is a bit more dynamic in the design and I think this little dynamic will bring the M-packet.

He should have reacted like these owners:

In my opinion, owners should be happy, that photos are taken of their cars. And personally, I've never made bad experience with the owners of luxury cars. Most of them are friendly and happy, that other people enjoy to look at their cars. And giving sportcar drivers a :usa7uh:, most of them rev the engine up then…

And many thanks for these great photos Christian! 5-series looks fantastic on the photos. Great looking car - hope you will have the chance to catch the F10 with a W212 next to it…

Interesting that those owners are in an R8 and a Lambo and would expect attention. I don't think the driver of the 5 Series would necessarily expect someone to be taking a picture of him, even if it is a new car. It's still just an ordinary car.

The issue is not how the driver reacted but Wimmer refering to him as a "complete prick", which I can't believe is even allowed on here as I know it is a pretty offensive term. For the driver to be justifiably called a "complete prick" he would have had to stop the car, jump out, and then attempt to wrestle the camera off Wimmer. I would assume that didn't happen. In which case the driver may have been "miserable", "grumpy", "sullen", "dour", a "prat", a "pillock", an "arse" or a "knob", but certainly not a "complete prick".

But as I've said before and I'll not say again now for fear of taking it completely off topic, this is probably a language thing.

Yes, I have to say that is a good example. I would say "ass****" is less offensive than "prick".
